3.B. Building Permit Application Residential Travis Smith Deck Replacement 1039 Forest Ave 
Discussion:
City Administrator Tom Ourada explained that the Building Permit Application from Travis Smith for 1039 Forest Ave is to replace the deck in the back and replace the north stoop. Ourada stated that drawings were submitted with the request. Ourada asked Building Inspector Trent Griffin to please get the drawings so the Historic Preservation Commission members could see them. Griffin stated that Smith had mentioned wanting to get the front porch like the historical pictures. Discussion was held on the conversation that Smith had with Griffin. 
Commission member Thom Reeves asked about the incentives that could be given to property owners through the preservation office. Ourada stated that the Nebraska State Historic Preservation Office offers the incentives for qualifying properties. There was discussion on the Historic Preservation Commission Local Landmark Designation Request Form. 
Historic Preservation Commission Chair Jennifer Robison asked if there could be a map on with addresses and site number and Ourada stated that it could be an interactive site but at the moment there is only one person that is doing everything so it could be done in the future. 
Reeves asked if the Crete Foundation could be approached about possibly helping with plaques for owners of historic properties that go through with the completion of their project. Oruada stated that process and procedure needs to be discussed and the Historic Preservation Commission Local Landmark Designation Request Form is a great place to start. Jeffries asked if the forms that are coming in can be scanned and a file created for record storage. 
Robison asked Jeffries if she could create a one-page report on what has been designated and what areas they want to designate. 
There was discussion to table indefinitely a recommendation on the application from Travis Smith for 1039 Forest Ave

Discussion:
Historic Preservation Commission Director and City Administrator Tom Ourada stated that the City of Crete is working on zoning. Going through the zoning ordinance documents. Ourada further stated that it keeps zones in historic districts and gives them a lot of protection while also giving transition districts. 

Process and procedure will be discussed at the next meeting. 
The next meeting will be on Wednesday, September 30th, 2026 at 6:00 p.m.
