Members of the Board of Trustees, led by President Jerry McCarty, took the opportunity to recognize the Redwater Marching Band Directors and Drum Majors for their overall success this year including the 6th Place at the State UIL Marching Contest. Recognized were: Dillon Davis - Director of Bands: Brandon Martindale - Head Junior High Director; Candis Caddenhead - Assistant Junior High Director; Matthew Pettit - Director of Percussion; Cooper Moncrief - Director of Color Guard; Catherine Chaffin - Senior Drum Major; Reagan Bulkley - Junior Drum Major.

Superintendent Dr. Kelly Burns brought Board members up to date on steps taken toward making a decision on participation in the Teacher Incentive Allotment program. Member Strand shared his concerns over the time spent on the topic if we are not going to move forward with participation. It is anticipated that a formal decision for participation will be made in December 2023 or January 2024.

IX.C.1. Bowie County Sheriff Semi-Annual Meeting

Discussion:
HB 3 requires for county sheriffs to hold semi-annual meetings with police, fire, school districts, EMS and others. The first meeting was held on Tuesday, November 7 at 6:00 p.m. in the Bowie County Courthouse Central Jury Room. Given that Superintendent Dr. Kelly Burns and Chief Dustin Thompson were in San Antonio for the State Marching Band Contest, staff member Tina Veal-Gooch represented them at the meeting. The meeting agenda was shared for Board members to review.

IX.C.2. Pastoral Alliance

Discussion:
The Pastoral Alliance held their second meeting on Friday, November 3. We now have planned monthly meetings. Not all pastors have attended yet, but most have. They are very open to partnering with schools for our students and community benefit. Members attending were: FBCR-Corey Calicott, Mike Powell; Brant Graham-New Faith Community Methodist; Kevin Holt-Echo Hills Baptist; Agustine Alaniz-Faith Community Baptist; Anthony Page-Friendship Baptist. Superintendent Dr. Kelly Burns is currently reviewing the School Chaplin legislation which was passed in the last regular session. This will take board action if we choose to more forward in this way. She will be getting additional information from our school attorney about Chaplins and their role in public schools.

IX.C.3. Redwater Youth Sports Association

Discussion:
Superintendent Dr. Kelly Burns met with RYSA members on October 25 and spoke with them about possible bond needs and support. She followed up with an open-ended survey to gauge support along with determining the needs/wants of the community. Once all the initial surveys are completed, data will be compiled into a list of possible bond items we can then send out via parent square and social media.

IX.D. Professional Development

Superitnendent Dr. Kelly Burns has spoken to principals about their process for choosing Professional Development for the year. Administration will continue to discuss our process with them and make sure they are aligning with district and campus goals. Lee Ann Corbin, Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction, will give a more specific report on Professional Development in December.

IX.E. 2023-2025 Safety and Facilities Enhancement (SAFE) Cycle 1

Discussion:
Redwater ISD was allocated $787,326 in Cycle 1 for Safety and Facilities Enhancement (SAFE) funds for 2023-2025. We will have to apply through TEA for the funds. Not yet sure what the rules of allocation and spending will be.

IX.G. Custodial Services Contract Update

The final signed contract with Walsh, Inc. has been completed and their official start date will be December 1. They are scheduled to do a deep clean as requested. Staff will be on hand the week of November 27 to review each campus and determine initial efforts for the December 1 start.
