Rationale:
The Killingly High School Percussion Ensemble 2A and Killingly High School Percussion Ensemble 4A both performed at the Percussive Arts Society of RI’s 14th Annual Day of Percussion hosted at the University of Rhode Island on Saturday, March 8th.  Fifteen percussion ensembles from Rhode Island, Massachusetts, and Connecticut participated in this festival.  Each ensemble performed one piece of music for the audience and a panel of three professional judges rated their performances.  The University of RI Percussion Ensemble then treated all of the students to a performance, which was followed by a clinic presented by Dr. Kyle Forsthoff on “Hand Drumming” Techniques.

Both Killingly High School Percussion Ensembles deserve a huge congratulation for their incredible performances at this festival.  Each ensemble received a "Superior Rating" from the adjudicators, which is the highest rating in the competition!  In addition, the KHS Percussion Ensemble 4A was awarded the first place, “Ronald N. Stabile – Outstanding Performance” Trophy for best ensemble performance of the day!  Their piece was titled, "Storm Warning and Dance" by Steve Riley, and KHS Percussion Ensemble 2A performed “Taqsim” by Scott Meister!  This is an outstanding accomplishment for our KHS percussion students.  Congratulations to all!  The students certainly represented the Killingly School Community with pride, class, and excellence!  We are all very proud of their accomplishments!

16.G. School Readiness Grant
Rationale:
As Per Policy 1440
.... The Superintendent shall notify the Board of the intention to submit grant proposal for funding. Board approval is required prior to grant acceptance."
Subject:
17. Non-Renewal of Teacher(s) for the 2014-15 School Year
Rationale:

In accordance with Connecticut General Statutes 10-151(b), the Board must act to non-renew the employment of any teacher not offered a contract for the following school year.  This first step is essentially a procedural formality necessary to start this process.  The board vote must occur before May 1, 2014.

At this point in time, the only non-renewals for board action are for long-term substitute teachers,  and 2 interim positions. The non-renewal process is really only reminder making it clear that the contract in place was for this year only.
