Description:
The Texas School Safety Center (TxSSC) District Safety and Security Audit Survey is a state-required reporting process used to assess each school district’s compliance with school safety and security requirements. Districts report information regarding safety and security audits, emergency operations planning, required drills and exercises, safety and security committee activities, facility security measures, training, and other statutory requirements. The survey allows TxSSC and the Texas Education Agency to identify statewide trends, areas of compliance, and opportunities for districts to strengthen their safety practices. Districts should ensure that reported information accurately reflects current practices and that supporting documentation is maintained locally.

10.A.8. Approve the 2026-2027 SHAC Committee Members
| Agenda Item Type: |
Action Item
Description:
Each school district in Texas is required in Chapter 28, Subchapter A-K of the Texas Education Code, to establish and maintain a district-level School Health Advisory Council. The SHAC is to be an advisory body and shall serve to provide guidance, recommendation, and other assistance to the Board of Trustees as specifically listed in state law and district policy. A School Health Advisory Council is a school board-appointed advisory group of individuals who represent different segments of the community. The goal is for parents, community members, and school staff to work together to improve the health of all students and families through coordinated school health programs. Breckenridge ISD has maintained a SHAC committee since the 2004-2005 school year. The committee meets four times per year to discuss school health issues, make recommendations, to the board pertaining to the health education curriculum, consult regularly with the Superintendent or designee, and approve the district-coordinated school health program.

Description:
The District Improvement Committee provides representative stakeholder input to help the superintendent develop, monitor, and evaluate the district’s improvement plan and ensure district priorities are focused on improving student outcomes.
For BISD, the District Improvement Committee is generally advisory rather than a governing body—it provides input and recommendations, while the superintendent and Board retain their respective administrative and governance authority. |
