9.a. Doug Penn
Description:
As always, Doug agreed to come out to teach kayaking all week for our annual Cultural Heritage Week celebration. At the last minute, we needed to bring everyone in a day early due to weather. The Whittier chaperone backed out and Doug not only switched his schedule around to come a day early, but he so graciously agreed to help chaperone the Whittier students so they would not miss this wonderful opportunity! Doug put in some long days and is so great with our kids. We sure appreciate him going above and beyond!

Anna is a vital part of the Tatitlek Community School; being one of the first of a child's educators is an important role and one she excels at. In addition to doing a great job providing a positive learning environment, she is so patient, kind and caring.

9.c. Jed & Nichole Palmer
Description:
It takes a special type of person to embrace the challenges of living and teaching in rural Alaska. It takes an even more phenomenal type of person to not only embrace those challenges, but to make a rural Alaska community one's own. Jed and Nichole have been an amazing addition to the community of Tatitlek. Their job never stops when the school day ends; they teach, coach, participate in after-school activities, and spend many of their waking hours surrounded by their students. The positive impact that they have made on the children of our community is apparent and they deserve all the thanks and recognition that we can give.

She has formed amazing relationships with the students and parents, and has created a fun family like atmosphere in the Valdez office.
