2. BOARD TO CONSIDER AND TAKE ACTION ON BOND ISSUE.
Discussion:
After meeting was called to order, Mr. Thompson passed out
an example of a Possible Proposal and a Construction Budget Summary to outline plans for the $3.8 million bond issue that will be used to address facility upgrades. Eddie White, Board President, stated "there are a lot of things that need to be improved. Members described the proposed five year general obligation bond, and the projects it would fund at both campuses. Plans include major gym renovations, classroom upgrades, new bus barn, rebuilt concession area, and money set aside for technology, HVAC systems, roofs, and campus wide safety improvements. The construction budget breakdowns are as follows: $2.1 million renovations of the Mutual gym including new lockers, roof work, gym seating, and lobby improvements. $1.6 million would be used to fund repairs on the Sharon gym and do campus renovations, $475,000.00 new football concession, and $375,000.00 for new bus barn. The south end of the upper elementary floods when it rains so that needs to be fixed also. Mr. Thompson addressed the room explaining that 90-95 % of the bond repayment funds come from corporations such as OG&E, DCP, Midstream, and others. That means only a small fraction of the cost would fall on local residents and landowners. Jeremy Baggett, board member, asked the architects questions about long-term costs and accountability. Parents Tecia Spray and Mark Hutt spoke about how the proposed upgrades could improve safety and student experiences. The next step will be the board considering the resolution at a special meeting Wednesday September 10th at 6:00 p.m. The resolution has to be turned in by September 18th to make it on the November ballet. If approved by voters, the bond would release funds in May 2026, allowing bids to be awarded and construction to begin soon after. |
