I. CALL TO ORDER

Discussion: Mr. Day called the meeting order. Under the continued provisions of the State Executive Order to protect the safety and welfare of the public, the Washington County Board of Education meeting today is closed to the public. In order to maintain transparency, the meeting is livestreamed and an audio recording will be provided as requested. The livestream link can be found on the website, www.wcde.org.

Mr. Day took attendance.

Following a moment of silence, Mr. Riddle led the pledge to the flag.

II. SCHOOL REOPENING PLAN

Discussion: Chairman Day read the motion approved at the September 3rd for the reopening plan.

Dr. Flanary provided an update on the rate of COVID-19 cases.

As requested, Dr. Flanary provided information on surrounding systems and who mandates masks among staff and students.

Mr. Fleenor requested that students receive mask breaks throughout the school day.

Dr. Flanary said teachers will the flexibility to do the mask breaks and confirmed they will occur.

It was asked if the system would have mask available for those students who may not have one.

Coordinated School Health Supervisor, Kelly Wagner, said the system is receiving masks from TEMA on a regular basis. She said there would be enough for multiple masks and will able to provided as needed.

It was asked the reprecussions for a student who does not wear a mask.

Dr. Flanary said masks would be treated as dress code. He urged the Board to include in the motion for students with a medical reason to not wear a mask to be exempt.

Ms. Dellinger said she would like students who attend school virtually to be allowed to participate in extracurricular activities.

Mr. Ervin urged the directive for the mask mandate for students should come from the central office to keep consistency among the schools.

Dr. Flanary responded his plan is to tell principals to treat as dress code .

The meeting was adjourned following the roll call vote regarding bus drivers' pay.

Chad Fleenor move for original amended motion as to pay bus drivers, effective September 8, not required to perform extra duties beyond driving a bus for next two weeks and bus drivers work they will get paid, if they do not work they will not be paid; bus drivers will not receive supplemental pay if they do not perform supplemental work. Mary Beth Dellinger seconded the motion which carried on roll call vote:
