7. Director of Schools Report
Discussion:
7.d. Dr. Cash congratulated Mr. Kyle Page, Principal at GOAL Academy, for the job he did over the weekend in Nashville at the TSBA Leadership Conference. He presented for Bradley County and did an exceptional job representing us and letting people know that we are all about children and giving them every opportunity to succeed. We thank you for stepping up and representing us so well. Mrs. Beaty also told the Director that she had two people come up to tell her what a good job he did. 7.e. Dr. Cash also asked everyone to not forget about Veterans Day tomorrow. The BUICK drive with Don Ledford will be held tomorrow at Bradley Square Mall from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. They are hoping for 500 test drives to raise $10,000.00 for veterans. Please go by and "Drive a Buick".

7.a. Welcome to GAPP Students
Discussion:
The Board welcomed the 22 German students that are visiting Bradley County. Some are attending Walker Valley and the others are attending Cleveland High Schools while they are here. They are visiting for 16 days learning about our schools and community.

7.b. Red Ribbon Week Update
Discussion:
Dr. Cash told the Board that all Bradley County schools participated in the National Red Ribbon Week. They made a tremendous impact in making students aware of making better choices and staying away from drugs. She also congratulated Karen Slater on a job well done. |

7.c. BCHS FFA 49th National Gold Emblem Chapter Award - Arlette Robinson, CTE Director
Discussion:
Mrs. Robinson, CTE Director, congratulated Bradley Central High School FFA on their 49th Consecutive National Gold Emblem Chapter Award. Students from the Chapter told the Board a little bit about the things they do in FFA. Mr. Frazier asked if there were any other chapters in the country with 49 gold emblems. Mr. Haynes, FFA teacher, told them that there were not. Mrs. Carey, another FFA teacher, said that they have to be 12th or so in the state to get to the national level. There are over 200 FFA Chapters in the state. Mr. Haynes also told the Board that in the 70's they had to be in the top 33 in the nation to receive the gold emblem. He praised Mr. Lackey and Mr. Ledford for the job they did at that time.

8. Energy Update - Johnny Mull
Discussion:
Mr. Mull gave an update to the Board of the energy project. Every other Wednesday there is a project review meeting. Lighting will start work on November 21st at Hopewell or BCHS. Windows will start at LFMS November 19th. Kitchens will start on November 14th at Black Fox. HVAC is currently being worked on at BCHS with about 70% complete. Michigan Avenue is also complete. As HVAC is completed, Control crews are coming in to put in the new controls. Building envelope work is complete and he is ready to sign off on. After the project review meeting, there is a document that is put on the Bradley County Schools' website for everyone to view and keep up with the progress of the job.

9. 2017-18 School Calendar - Danny Coggin

Discussion:
Mr. Coggin presented the 2017-18 school calendar. A committee was formed with two elementary teachers, two secondary teachers, two elementary administrators, two secondary administrators, Patty Phillips and Mr. Coggin to work on the calendar. After a couple of meetings, the proposed calendar was created. First day for teachers is August 1st and first day for students is August 4th.

11. Announcements - The December Board meeting will be Thursday, December 8th, beginning at 5:30 pm here in this Board room.
Discussion:
Chairman Dillard congratulated both Bradley Central and Walker Valley football teams for being in the second round of playoffs. He announced the meetings for December. The Work session is Tuesday, December 6th, and a Board meeting is Thursday, December 8th. Both meetings begin at 5:30pm He asked the Board to put January 28th, on their calendar for a Board Retreat. |
