The Board of Education of Hermantown Independent School District No. 700 met in regular session on May 13, 2024. Chair, Heather Holst, called the meeting to order at 6:00 P.M.

VII.A. Elementary, Middle, High School, and Community Education Reports
Discussion:
Muenich. Recognized students that took the National German Exam. Sara Rose and Isabel Kirkeby earned the Gold Medal, Jack Collins, Anna Katich and Sara Hodek earned the Silver Medal and Nathan Gjessing, Will Benner and Cormac Maguire earned the Bronze Medal.
Wietman. Recognized the Middle School Students of the Month: Asher Banaszak (5th), Jade Kalm (5th), Lucy Peterson (5th), Austin Lin (5th), Ayaka Seo (6th), Elyse Aubol (6th), Norah Beyer (7th), Natalie Williams (7th), Luke McDonald (8th), Eva Elnes (8th). Also, recognized Mr. Hunke and Mr. Mitchell for the Choir concert today. The 6th, 7th and 8th grade band concert will take place next week. Appelwick. The Scholastic Book Fair is going on this week. Will have information on how it went at the next meeting. Berg. Recognized the following Hermantown early learning staff for their participation in Circle of Securities training. They have given up their Tuesday nights from 4:00 - 6:00 pm for the last nine weeks to be trained: Kim Olson, Meggan Flaada, Vanessa Zack, Anna Cashman, Andrea Mattison, Roxy Olsen Hurst, Kristal Berg Whitwam. Recognized Teacher Appreciation Week last week.Thanked the teachers for their hard work and dedication throughout the year. |

Whitwam went over procedures for open enrollment, including Minnesota Department of Education deadlines and frequently asked questions.

Discussion:
Down to the last week for legislature. Challenge to keep up with all of the legislature because of the constant changes. I have to wait and see what comes out of the meetings.

Discussion:
Jessa Cook, Director of Special Education for Northern Lights Special Education Cooperative, is doing an internal audit from previous files through MDE. The state randomly selected 10 IEPs from throughout the district to be pulled for Jessa to audit. Principals attended a legal update and restraint presentation. Whitwam also investigated specific concerns regarding not following specific IEP plans. Conducting exit interviews and looking back at old exit interviews to get caught up on employees and why they left or are leaving.
