Submitted by Abby Horbach, Asst Jr-Sr High School Principal With the school year now finished, the focus shifts to data collection and review while prepping for a successful start to the 2026-2027 school year (which honestly seems so crazy to say!!) Summer is such a valuable time for the important "behind-the-scenes" work to be completed that helps ensure our systems, procedures, and supports are in place before students and staff return in August. Last year, it felt like we were "building the ship as we sail" so to speak with all of our new initiatives. Now we refine and work on consistency! Currently, we are working through a review of the student handbook, updating policies and procedures to align with new state guidance and statutory requirements (mostly the Attendance Policy). In addition, we are continuing to evaluate and tweak our MTSS processes to ensure we are providing effective academic and behavioral supports for all students. Advisory and Intervention are also a big part of this! On May 26th and 27th, some of our team met to review responsibilities, determine duties and roles, and identify opportunities to streamline processes both building and district wide. These conversations will help improve efficiency, distribute workload more effectively, and strengthen collaboration across the building(s)! Summer is one of the most important times for proactive planning and continuous improvement. I am excited about the work already taking place and look forward to the opportunities ahead as we prepare for the 2026-2027 school year! Submitted by Elementary Principals Deb Kruse and Steve Rose As we close out the 2025-2026 school year, we have been actively engaged in ensuring a strong finish while simultaneously preparing for a successful start to the upcoming school year. Professional Development: DIBELS Benchmark Assessment Steve traveled to Kearney to participate in training on the new benchmark assessment system, DIBELS (Dynamic Indicators of Basic Early Literacy Skills). Deb received training previously through ESU2. This training has equipped them with the knowledge necessary to implement the assessment with fidelity, support teachers in understanding data, and use results to drive early literacy instruction. We are preparing to lead building-level professional development to ensure staff are confident and prepared for implementation in the fall. Preparation for the 2026-2027 School Year Significant time has been dedicated to planning and preparation for next year. A key focus has been the development of the master schedule, ensuring that instructional time is maximized and aligned with district priorities. We are also reviewing staffing, student placement, and building systems to ensure a smooth and effective start to the year. New Teacher Training - August Planning is underway for August new teacher training. The training will include:
Submitted by Amanda Coufal, Director of Special Education State Track: Brielle Burcham and Tess Roubal were the first State Unified Track and Field qualifiers in school history! The duo competed in unified shot put on Thursday, May 21st at Burke Stadium and received 8th place. ![]() ![]() ![]() |
