Discussion:
No members of the public wished to provide public comment for the board committee

4.1. Review requirements of the Committee on American Civics
Discussion:
Mr. Braden reviewed the requirements of the Committee on American Civics as contained in state statute; highlighted by the two public meetings where public comment is accepted, an alignment of the civics curriculum, and opportunities at D-T for students.
Mr. Engel reviewed the curriculum for civics at the elementary school, specifically highlighting an updated 6th-grade social studies resource and curriculum. Additionally, discussion items included the daily pledge of allegiance for all students (elementary and high school), the student planning committee for the Veterans Day Program, and how students learn the pledge of allegiance specifically in 1st grade. |
4.2. Review of current D-T Social Studies curriculum resources
Discussion:
Mr. Braden shared the components of the statute at D-T High School where students take civics citizenship tests in 8th and 11th grade and also have requirements to attend meetings of the public body at school and write papers on the experience.
