The committee has not met recently. They have deployed a school survey but do not have results returned. DHS has done provider survey that we are waiting on the results.

ESU 1 Administrator shared discussions he has been having with UNK regarding gaining a Mental Health Certificate. Health and Human Services handle the mental health certificate. Create a committee (member of a schools, ESUs, NDE) that would visit with HHS and discuss providers receiving certificate (take 12 credit hours). Do we needs changes in Rule 24 to include alternative path?

Discussion:
Circle of Friends were present to discuss the future support of program. Circle of Friends is a program within schools to provide support of autism children. Program started with 8 schools with Omaha Metro and now in 235 schools through the state. There are approximately 536 autism students/peer student 1100 involved in the program. The schools must have a principals signatures, action plan/purpose in order to apply for funding. The cost of program is approximately $250,000/money to schools.

Steve Milliken discussed medical expansion is stalled. Seminars/workshops coming up to help educate process. NDE is a in a state of transition and working through new direction/communication regarding data. Amy Rhone is the new Assistant Director of SPED.
