Discussion:  The Smith County Board of Education met at 5:00 pm on Tuesday, September 19, 2023, at the Smith County Board of Education. Mr. XXX provided the invocation and led the Pledge of Allegiance to the American Flag. 

Discussion:  Mr. Ricky Shoulders, Chairman of the Board, welcomed all visitors and called the XX meeting of the board to order.

Discussion:  Request to approve the regular meeting minutes of the Board - Tuesday, August 15, 2023.

Discussion: 

1. Smith County High School FFA members request permission to attend the FFA National Convention on November 1-4, 2023, in Indianapolis, IN.  This will be an overnight stay.
2. Smith County High School girls’ basketball team requests permission to attend a Christmas Tournament on December 26-30, 2023, in Slidell, LA. This will be an overnight trip.
3. Permission for Smith County High School student to attend the FCCLA Capitol Leadership Conference in Washington, DC, on October 7-11, 2023. This will be an overnight trip.

Discussion:  Smith County Middle School would like to apply for the STEM Special Event Grant - AASL Grant.  

Discussion:  Gordonsville High School requests approval for students to take additional credits in order to graduate in May 2024.

Discussion:  Mr. Tim Towns, CTE Director, would like permission to request bids for materials and construction of a 24’ x 48’ greenhouse for Smith County Middle School.

Discussion:  The Superintendent took the following actions:

Discussion:  Request to approve new Policy 3.218 Service Animals in District Facilities utilizing Policy 1.600 adopting changes on first reading.

Discussion:  Request to approve the bid of $3.473 per gallon for 6,000 gallons of diesel fuel and $3.31 per gallon for 1,500 gallons of gasoline without ethanol from Kimbro Oil Company for a total of $25,806.00. 

Discussion: 

1. Bid Approval to purchase one 78 passenger type C propane bus for $140,674.00
2. Bid Approval to purchase one 30 passenger type C special needs propane bus for $158,496

Discussion:  Ben Johnson, Federal Programs Supervisor is requesting permission to purchase 225 Chromebooks and 9 Chromebook carts to equip each school within the district with 25 Chromebooks and a cart for Professional Development purposes. The purchase will also be pending approval through the Federal Programs Oversight Title II Allowable Use of Funds in ePlan.

The bid price per unit will be $246.60 per unit, and the Google Chrome Educational License is $32.07 per unit. The storage carts will be approximately $400 each. The purchase price for the Chromebooks and Licenses will not exceed $63,000 and the purchase price for the carts will not exceed $4,000. Combined total will not exceed $67,000.
