V.B. Building the Future Teacher's Club Presentation
Presenter:
J. Whitcomb
Description:
The GCED has been awarded a $500,000 Grow Your Own Student Pathway grant from the Minnesota Department of Education. This is a significant investment in our region and a direct response to a challenge we are all experiencing—ensuring that our educator workforce better reflects and serves the students in our schools. Through this grant, we will launch the GCED Future Teachers Club, a five-year initiative designed to build a sustainable, local pipeline of future educators. The program is intentionally focused on identifying and supporting students—particularly students of color and Indigenous students—who have the potential to become outstanding educators in our communities. As you will see in the presentation, this is not a traditional after-school program. It is a structured, credit-earning and paid career pathway that includes internships, college experiences, certifications, individualized advising, and scholarship support. The goal is both immediate impact—helping students access postsecondary pathways—and long-term impact—strengthening recruitment and retention of educators across our member districts.
