1.A. Assistant Superintendent's Report

The purpose of this report is to provide regular updates to the Education Committee regarding teaching and learning. Assistant Superintendent Jeff Horton shared current information regarding implementation of district initiatives and school operations.

1.B. Curriculum and Instruction Report

The purpose of this report is to provide regular updates to the Education Committee regarding teaching and learning. Director of Curriculum and Instruction Gail Netland shared current information regarding the status of the work of the curriculum and instruction department.

1.C. Music Curriculum Adoption Process Update

Teri Akervik, Music Curriculum Specialist, shared an update on the new music standards curriculum adoption process.

1.D. Grant Applications

1.D.1) North Regional Implementation Project Grant Application

Michael Meyer, Denfeld High School, has submitted a grant application to the North Regional Implementation Project in the amount of $400. If awarded, funds will be used to support sub costs so the Denfeld Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS) team can meet to do Tiered Fidelity Inventory (TFI).

1.D.2) Education First Grant Application

Michael Meyer, Denfeld High School, has submitted a grant application to the Education First in the amount of $5,000. If awarded, funds will be used to support a group of African American female students to explore health issues impacting African American females, as a Service Learning Project.

1.D.3) Wells Fargo Grant Application

Leah Bangs, Denfeld High School, has submitted a grant application to Wells Fargo in the amount of $1,000. If awarded, funds will be used to purchase a hot box and chaffing dishes for the Denfeld Catering Club, which has grown substantially in the last couple years. Currently, the program is only able to serve cold appetizers and food for off site community catering events. The equipment purchase would enable the program to create a hot appetizer and meal menu, which would help open doors for more catering events and raise more money to fund more career based field trips for the students.

2.A.1) 1083 - Weapons Free Zone - DELETION - Definitely Postponed until the April 2019 Board Meeting

In moving to the MSBA Model Policies, administration is recommending the deletion of Policy 1083 - Weapons Free Zone, which will be replaced with MSBA Policy 501 - School Weapons Policy.

2.A.2) NEW Policy 501 - School Weapons Policy - Definitely Postponed until the April 2019 Board Meeting

Attached is revised MSBA Policy 501 - School Weapons Policy, for the second reading. This policy would replace Policy 1083 - Weapons Free Zone.

2.B. Diploma Requests

The following students have met all graduation requirements for the Duluth Public Schools and should be awarded a Diploma:
