Lakes Area Youth Assistance (LAYA) is a prevention program within the Oakland County Circuit Court. Youth Assistance has been in Walled Lake since 1960. Their mission statement is to strengthen youth and families and to prevent and reduce incidents of juvenile delinquency, neglect, and abuse through volunteer involvement. Ms. Nancy van Leuwen, LAYA Vice-Chair, and Mrs. Stacy Pasini, LAYA Caseworker, will present an update on their programs and services.

10. HIGH SCHOOL ADVANCED PLACEMENT BIOLOGY TEXTBOOK RECOMMENDATION
The current high school Advanced Placement biology curriculum resources are no longer meeting College Board standards for audit requirements due to the copyright date. Based on the results of the examination of available products, it is the committee’s recommendation to adopt the following Advanced Placement Biology curriculum, which includes a textbook and online support; Biology for the AP Course, Bedford, Freeman & Worth, 2022. The cost will not exceed $40,000 and includes student editions, all teacher support materials, online access, technology, and shipping. The process has been endorsed by Administration, and a motion for approval of the textbook purchase will be presented at April 13, 2023, Regular Board meeting.

12. RESOLUTION: SECTION 105 LIMITED SCHOOLS OF CHOICE
For many years, Walled Lake Consolidated Schools has been open to Section 105 Schools of Choice under the State School Aid Act. Under this section, a pupil may enroll from one Oakland County school district to another. At the November meeting, the Board of Education approved Walled Lake Consolidated Schools as a participant in Section 105 Limited Schools of Choice for the 2023-2024 school year with a designation of school openings not to exceed 5% of the most recent October count in any individual school. Administration recommends the Board consider increasing the school openings for Section 105 Limited Schools of Choice at Elementary Schools District-wide, not to exceed 10% of the most recent October Count for the 2023-24 school year, specific to Kindergarten. |
13. RESOLUTION: BOARD REVIEW OF HEAD START PROGRAM
In accordance with the federal Head Start Performance Standards, the Walled Lake Consolidated School District Board of Education is the governing body of the District's Head Start program. To comply with all federal contract regulations, Walled Lake Schools' Head Start is requesting the Board review the items listed below and is requesting the Board's approval of the Personnel Policy for the 2022-23 School Year. All items were approved by the Head Start Policy Committee. 14. LAKES AREA YOUTH ASSISTANCE VOLUNTEER BOARD MEMBERS
Lakes Area Youth Assistance (LAYA) is a prevention program within the Oakland County Circuit Court. Youth Assistance has been in Walled Lake since 1960. Their mission statement is to strengthen youth and families and to prevent and reduce incidents of juvenile delinquency, neglect and abuse through volunteer involvement. In keeping with their established by-laws, LAYA has requested Board approval of their 2023 Volunteer Board members.

15. OAKLAND COUNTY SCHOOL BOARDS ASSOCIATION (OCSBA) DINNER MEETING

16. MICHIGAN ASSOCIATION OF SCHOOL BOARDS (MASB) CAPITOL EVENT
The MASB will be holding its spring Behind the Scenes at the Capitol event on Wednesday, April 19, 2023. This event is a great opportunity to come to Lansing and hear from legislators and budget experts who will provide a timely status summary. The event also allows for networking between districts to learn from one another. |
