7. AUDIT REPORT
The District's 2021-22 financial records were audited during August by the independent auditing firm of Plante & Moran, PLLC. The financial records audited include all funds and school operational funds. Also, a detailed, separate audit of systems and financial controls was conducted, covering all federal and state-funded programs. Representatives from Plante & Moran will present the audit report and their findings to the Board of Education and the community. |
8. PUBLIC ACT 144 OF 2022, SECTION 98C LEARNING LOSS REPORT
Mrs. Teri Les, Assistant Superintendent of Business Services, will review the plans for the state allocation of federal funding provided through the Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief (ESSER) II fund. Administration plans to apply for this funding, which is being made available to districts to address learning loss.

9. STATE ASSESSMENT REPORT
Mrs. Catherine Kochanski, Assistant Superintendent of Learning Services, will review the spring 2022 assessment data, and provide an overview of current curricular and instructional initiatives.

10. NEW RESOLUTION: SUMMER PROPERTY TAX COLLECTIONS
In accordance with Section 1613 of the Revised School Code of 1976, Act 451, Public Acts of Michigan, 1976, as amended (“Act 451”), the Walled Lake Consolidated School District administration recommends the continuation of the summer tax levy for school property taxes. This includes school property taxes due in the calendar year 2023 and each year thereafter until the resolution is revoked.

11. RESOLUTION: BOARD APPROVAL OF HEAD START PROGRAM
In accordance with the federal Head Start Performance Standards, the Walled Lake Consolidated School District Board of Education is the governing body of our program. To comply with all federal contract regulations, Walled Lake Schools Head Start is submitting the following items for School Board approval. |
12. PROCLAMATION: MICHIGAN SAFE SCHOOLS WEEK - OCTOBER 16-22, 2022
Providing a safe and secure school environment for our students is of the utmost importance for all Michigan schools. Students learn best and are most likely to achieve their full potential in safe and orderly classrooms. The safest schools are those in which the school climate reflects and promotes values of trust, respect, appreciation for diversity, and open channels of communication between staff and students. The Michigan Safe Schools Week (October 16-22) is a week-long campaign to raise awareness on effective ways to prevent or reduce violence in our schools.

13. PROCLAMATION: PRINCIPALS' MONTH - OCTOBER 2022
The Michigan State Board of Education and Michigan Elementary and Middle School Principals Association (MEMSPA) has proclaimed the month of October 2022 as Michigan School Principals' Month. This dedicated group of educators richly deserves recognition for their commitment to the education of ALL Michigan children. We are proud to recognize our Principals for their devotion to student achievement and dedication to overseeing the countless facets of education for our Walled Lake Schools children.

15. SUPERINTENDENT CONTRACT
The Board of Education has concluded the Superintendent Search process. A Board-appointed committee met to enter into contract discussions with Dr. John Bernia. The Board presents the attached contract for consideration with Mr. Bernia to engage his services as Superintendent from October 17, 2022, through June 30, 2025.
