VI.B.a. Back to School Bash

Rationale:
On August 3rd, we hosted our Back to School Bash. The event ran from 10am to 6pm. Students were encouraged to come to school to get schedules, locker combinations, check out their 1:1 device, and get all those back-to-school items taken care of prior to the first day. We promoted this event through our website, social media and also mailed letters home to get the word out. We did this event very early due to the need to get student laptops to students prior to the August 7th NSAA start date. Within the first few days of sports practices, students in identified activities need to participate in Impact Testing, which gives a baseline for concussion protocol. We were very pleased with the turn out. Students who were unable to make it to school can come in during office hours.

Students will be welcomed back on Thursday, August 17th, in the gym. Each year we have a theme to add to the excitement of coming back to school. This year's theme is A New Era at NBC. We have an activity planned for the students and staff in the gym to get the year started off on the right foot! |
VI.B.c. Media Day

August 10th, Mrs. Wright, Mrs. Schwanebeck, Mrs. Armstrong, Mrs. Castillo, myself and Nathan Arneal organized the first ever NBC Media Day. In a meeting with the coaches at the end of July, we discussed how to manage all the media needed, from button pictures to video clips for the new scoreboard without having to lose practice time or asking for multiple days for the same thing. Like all new things, we will learn from this first go around and adapt and change as needed for the winter sports session.

VI.B.d. Update LB 705 - Graduation requirement

Rationale:
Lawmakers have pushed all computer science requirements back one year. Students graduating in 2028 will be required to take a 5-credit computer science course. It was initially slated for the class of 2027. At Administrator Days the Department of Education presented this topic and also stated there is a possibility that you could teach this course in 8th grade to meet the requirements. They compared this to school teaching Algebra to 8th graders. One participant in the audience stated, like us, we do have 8th grade Algebra but it is not put on their HS transcript. The gentleman presenting from NDE believed the course would need to be on the students' transcripts, so he told the audience this topic was still in discussion and more information would be coming. |

Elementary teachers will be ready to welcome students and families at our annual Open House event on Wednesday, August 16th from 6:00-7:00pm. Students will meet their teachers and drop off supplies in their classrooms and lockers.

The elementary building is bright, beautiful, and waiting for the children to return! Teachers have been busy throughout the summer taking classes, meeting in grade level teams, and preparing their classrooms for the new school year.
August 17th is the 1st day of school for K-5th grade students with an early dismissal at 1:30pm. The 1st day of Preschool will be on August 21st. The morning session is from 8:00-11:30am and has 18 students in the class. The afternoon session is from 12:00-3:30 and has 10 students enrolled in the class. |
