Issues We are Working On or Monitoring
The forecasts show the economy continuing to grow at a modest pace, driven largely by business investment. However, employment growth remains weak in both Colorado and the nation, while labor force participation has softened. Inflation has also reaccelerated, driven primarily by energy prices. Denver-area inflation reached 5.0% in May, with energy costs up more than 25% year-over-year.
Looking ahead to FY 2027-28, the forecast provides roughly $873 million in additional General Fund capacity above the statutorily required reserve. However, after accounting for projected caseload, inflationary, and other budgetary pressures, LCS estimates the state could face a $315 million shortfall. While fiscal challenges have not disappeared, this represents a significant improvement from earlier forecasts that projected deficits exceeding $1 billion. Forecasters cautioned that considerable uncertainty remains and that the outlook could deteriorate if conditions weaken.
Please let me know if you have an interest in either one specifically, or both.

Thank you to everyone who played a role in making this vision a reality. We look forward to an outstanding school year ahead!
Thank you for your commitment to our students, families, and school community. Your efforts do not go unnoticed, and we are excited to showcase the amazing environment you have helped create.
Ribbon Cutting Ceremony - will take place on Friday August 7th from 4:00 - 5:30New Staff We are excited to welcome the following new staff to our building for the 25-26 School year:
6th Grade Parent Night will be held on August 11th. We hope this event provides a strong foundation for a successful school year and gives parents the information they need regarding middle school guidelines, expectations, and opportunities. Our goal is to help students and families feel prepared, informed, and confident as they begin this exciting new chapter. Locker/Computer Check-out (August 11) All 6th, 7th and 8th graders will be assigned lockers and computers on Tuesday, August 11. Before a student is allowed to check out their locker or computer, they must complete the district’s annual Data Update (found online) and pay any fees/fines from last year. Open House (August 14) Middle School Open House will take place on Friday, August 14th. Students will have the opportunity to meet their teachers, walk through their schedules, practice using their lockers, and learn about the many activities, clubs, and opportunities available at the middle school. In addition to academic information, the middle school will also host an Athletic Information Night to provide parents and student-athletes with important information regarding athletic policies, procedures, expectations, and participation requirements. We encourage all students and families to attend this event as it is a great opportunity to become familiar with the school, connect with staff, and start the school year with confidence and excitement. First week of school The first week has been carefully planned to help students transition successfully into the new school year. Students will have opportunities to learn about and review The Bronco Way, including the expectations and core values that will guide our school community for years to come. They will also begin to embrace our motto, "I am because we are Platte Valley," and strive to Chase 100! each day by going the extra mile to achieve success. Building tours will be available to help students become familiar with the facility and gain a better understanding of where important resources, classrooms, and support services are located. These opportunities will help students feel confident, connected, and prepared. We are looking forward to an awesome school year!

Speaker(s):
President Welch/Dr. Burmeister
Description:
We will discuss the proposed resolutions that will be on the docket at the delegate assembly. The assembly will be held September 11-12, 2026 at Beaver Run Resort in Breckenridge. James Welch will be attending to represent our district. Mary Roth was selected by the board to be the alternate.
This is the process by which the Colorado Association of School Boards determines their positions on various state policy issues, mainly in regard to legislative proposals. Any board member may attend Fall Conference. If the board would like, we could have a discussion item in September to review the various proposed resolutions that will be before the Delegate Assembly. The board can also submit resolutions for the delegate assembly to consider. An agenda for the two days is provided below for your reference, along with information on the purpose of the Delegate Assembly and what it entails. If anyone other than Mr. Welch would like to attend, we can still get you registered. Here is the CASB link for the Fall Conference with detailed pricing and the agenda: Fall Conference

12.d. Policy Review Process
This is a follow-up discussion from the June board meeting on how the Board would like to proceed with policy review.
Speaker(s):
Dr. Burmeister
Description:
At the regular June meeting the Board held a brief discussion on how it approaches policy review. Director Bauer had shared the approach Windsor takes, which she learned about at a CBOCES board meeting. Dr. Burmeister provided a pros and cons table at the June board meeting, which is provided below. This is not intended to be all inclusive, the Board may certainly think of additional. I would like guidance from the Board if you would like to: (1). Change the current board policy review process, (2) Hold a work sessions to thoroughly discuss the topic, or (3) Proceed as we have.
