Tuesday, March 12, 2024 Executive Session 5:00 pm re: (ORS 192.660.(2)(e) for Property, (ORS 192.660(2)(i)) for Superintendent Evaluation, and (ORS 192.660(2)(h)) for Litigation Updates - Lincoln County School District Business Meeting of the Board

Description:  Oregon law prohibits discrimination in all public elementary and secondary schools that receive state funding, including discrimination based on perceived race, color, religion, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability or national origin. All comments during our public board meetings will follow these policies. I would like to highlight two of these policies: AC, Non-Discrimination, and ACB, Every Student Belongs, in regards to appropriate public comments.

Description:  (During this time the audience will have the opportunity to speak to the Board. Anyone wishing to address the Board is asked to complete a "Board Communication Request" form, available from the board secretary. The chairman reserves the right to limit the time allotted to each presenter. It is requested that those addressing the board state their name for the record.)

Description:  Skye Cluster, a WHS Senior won the NCWIT Aspirations in Computing High School Award. It's a multi-tiered award and she was designated the Rising Star Award. Rising Star: Students who may be starting out in their pursuit and study of computing. Rising Stars embody the idea of aspirations and are encouraged to continue their exploration of the field.

Carisa Ketchen, Toledo Jr/Sr
Carisa brings true passion into her classroom every day. Her students are regularly engaged by the wealth of knowledge and experience that she shares with them. Toledo students love and respect Carisa and staff feel she is a valued member of the team. 

 

Savannah Martin, Newport High
Savannah works tirelessly to ensure equitable access to science education by using structured language protocols for ELL students, translating her own materials, and holding students to high standards while giving them scaffolds and supports to encourage metacognitive thinking. As part of our PLC work, I recently got to observe her mitosis lab, and the students were so thrilled to be working with the microscopes! They were engaging with each other and comparing onion root tip and whitefish slides, and I heard tons of academic language discourse between groups of students. She also works with Crystal Hinds and our Indian Ed program by chaperoning events with NHS students. Finally, In her I.B. class, her students just capped off a unit on protein synthesis with an interpretive dance battle between her juniors and seniors, and they had a blast!

CTE Teachers
We have our CTE Expo coming up, and we just want to thank our Career and Technical Education teachers for all the extra work they are putting in to make this event a success for the second year.

Description:  We will be applying for a cooperative sponsorship with Toledo for boys golf. We had one for 1 year last year with the hope that Toledo would add golf. That did not happen. This application is for 3 years. We have 2 boy golfers. 

Description:  (Consent Calendar agenda items are designated by the Board to be adopted in a single motion unless an individual Board member or the Superintendent requests an item be removed for consideration.  Action on matters of a routine matter is addressed in one motion to conserve time for other deliberation by the Board.)                   
 

Description:  Regular personnel action requiring Board approval.

Description:  The District’s 2023-24 Adopted Budget includes appropriations of $4,305,000 in General Fund - Transfers Out for transfer to various specified Special Revenue Funds in order to provide current and future funding for Curriculum, Technology and Music purchases, as well as providing for the ongoing maintenance of District buildings.

Resources are adequate at this time to make this transfer and also meet the Board Policy requiring a 7% minimum ending fund balance in the General Fund.
