7.2.a. Bristol Adult Education CSDE Grant
Rationale:
The Adult Education Grant is submitted for approval. The state’s reimbursement percentage is 53.01% or $329,700. Our first installment of approximately 66% is $201,435. A second installment will come in May and at that time the CSDE has indicated a minimum of an 08% CAP.

7.2.b. Bristol Adult Education Program Enhancement Grant – English as a Pathway to a Brighter Future
Rationale:
Project Title: English as a Pathway to a Brighter Future English Language Acquisition, Integrated English Literacy and Civics Education (IEL/Civics) This Project incorporates a unique two pronged approach that will start with an English Language/Citizenship Program incorporating the new CCR Standards associated with either a manufacturing/construction career pathway or a health services pathway. The second part will involve placement in an industry recognized Workforce Development Board aligned occupational specific skills and work-readiness industry recognized certificate program.

Rationale:
Project Title: Pathway to a Brighter Future: Ready Set Read Family Literacy Services; Elementary, ESL and ABE/GED Through the collaborative efforts of Bristol’s Family Resource Center, Early Childhood Center, Parent and Child Center and Bristol Adult Education Center low literate adults and their children will improve literacy levels and parenting skills in order to become reading role models for their children and develop and incorporate improved parenting skills.

7.2.d. Bristol Adult Education Program Enhancement Grant - Pathways to a Brighter Future: Preparing Tomorrow’s Workers for a Brighter Future
Rationale:
Project Title: Pathways to a Brighter Future: Preparing Tomorrow’s Workers for a Brighter Future Workforce Readiness Grant for Elementary, ESL and ABE/GED students BAEC will strive to increase its student’s access to verified career pathways programs through collaboration and integration with local employers, community partners and community stakeholders. The program’s overall objective is for each student to enroll in a College level advanced manufacturing program or to gain entry level employment in manufacturing as well as to obtain a high school degree or improve their English Language skills. The ultimate goal is to allow our Adult Learners to become self-sufficient members of the community and move away from the ALICE threshold.

Rationale:
Bristol has received a federal grant in the amount of $116,437 from the Carl D. Perkin Career & Technical Education Act of 2006 to support Career & Technical Education programs at Bristol Central and Bristol Eastern High Schools.

Sky Bight, through the Main Street Community Foundation provided funding in support of our manufacturing training program for Adult Learners. These funds will be used in support of training throughout the year. |

Rationale:
This grant will support a new Information Technology Program for students enrolled at Bristol Preparatory Academy. These funds will support low income students in pursuit of a career in IT.

9.1. Funding for Movia Robotics Pilot
Rationale:
Students enrolled in EAGLE programs will have an opportunity to experience a social and pragmatic skills learning opportunity facilitated by Movia Robotics. Simply, the Movia robot is a high engagement activity focusing on cohorts of students requiring supports, intervention and skill development with social and pragmatic communication skills. The Movia Pilot will consist of specific lessons, facilitated in collaboration with Bristol staff, delivered to students in small group settings, 2 times per week for 8-10 weeks. Grant totals: Barnes Group - $2,500.00, Main Street Community Foundation - $2,367.00, Stocker Foundation - $2,434. |

9.4. Update on the Proposed Memorial Boulevard Arts Magnet School
Rationale:
The Board passed a resolution at their September meeting authorizing the filing of an ED-049 Form to create an intradistrict arts magnet school at the Memorial Boulevard School. Since that time, the City Council approved the filing of the ED-049 and the Board of Finance approved $325,000 to spend on schematic design. With this approval, we will be asking the City Council to appoint a building committee at their October meeting. Chairman Wilson, Tim Callahan and Dr. Moreau met with Department of Administrative Services staff last week to increase our understanding of the planning components that must be in place to be added to the Priority List for school renovation funding.
