Rationale:
Project Choice is a program run by the Connecticut State Department of Education aimed at reducing racial isolation for Hartford students. This grant total has steadily declined and will continue to do so, as we made a decision to continue participation for currently enrolled students, but not have additional students enter. This money is used primarily for one-time expenditures such as professional development, consultations and/or program supplies. This year we have 1 student enrolled and receive $3,000 for that student.
|
5.2.b. American Library Association/Pitney Bowes Foundation Grant
Rationale:
West Bristol K-8 School received a grant in the amount of $3,500 from the American Library Association and the Pitney Bowes Foundation to purchase books for their collection to replace the volumes the O’Connell School Library lost during the flood.

7.1. ELL World History and ELL Citizenship Curriculum - Second Reading
Rationale:
The ELL World History and ELL Citizenship curricula for the high school were presented to the Student Achievement Committee on July 23, 2012. This is the second presentation for both. These curricula are used in the Sheltered Instruction courses by content-area certified teachers and in some cases co-taught with the ESL teacher. Both curricula utilize Social Studies & TESOL Frameworks and Content Standards. In addition they are written with appropriate strategies, and expectations for the proficiency levels of English Language Learners.

7.2. School Counseling Curriculum - Grades 6-12 - Second Reading
Rationale:
The Bristol School Counseling Curriculum (formerly known as the Guidance Curriculum) was last revised in 2005. Since that time many programmatic changes have occurred including a shift to a developmental school counseling curriculum. Changes reflected in the revised curriculum include a greater emphasis on student data and are based on state and national standards in academic, career, and personal/social development to promote and enhance the learning process for all students. The standards included in this document reflect the state and national standards incorporated in the CT Comprehensive School Counseling Program Development (2008) and the American School Counselor Association (ASCA) National Standards for Students (2011). The revised curriculum is the work of the School Counseling Writing Committee. Committee members included Sheri Amara, Daniel Cocchiola, Michelle Kalfayan, Elizabeth Santos, Jennifer Tulacro, Erin Wininger, and Elizabeth Rossier. The entire department provided valuable feedback during the writing process.
