Description:
A motion was made by Norma Llanes for approval of December 13, 2005 minutes. Felipe Quiroga seconded the motion. Motion carried.

5.A.1. Citizens of the Month
Description:
The awards for the citizens of the month were given out by Doyle Todd and Juan Gutierrez. Each student received a Citizen of the Month plaque. The students that were present also received meals certificates from Stars or McDonalds plus a free movie rental from Video Depot for their accomplishment.
Mr. Reed had the band perform for the Board for board appreciation. Mr. Pena also presented to the board some art work that was made by Mrs. Victoria Hernandez' Art Class. Mrs. Jayne Rhodes and some of her students showed up to sing to the board a song they had put together.

Description:
Mr. Lara announced that Mrs. Danette Lopez was the employee of the month for December 2005. Mrs. Lopez was not able to attend the meeting.

6. Board Appreciation Month
Description:
Mr. Reed had the band perform for the Board for board appreciation. Mr. Pena also presented to the board some art work that was made by Mrs. Victoria Hernandez' Art Class. Mrs. Jayne Rhodes and some of her students showed up to sing to the board a song they had put together.

7. Bert Corona Leadership Institute
Description:
Nora Vasquez made a motion to approve the participation in the Bert Corona Leadership Institute in conjunction with Region One and allowing a nominated San Perlita High School studnet(s) the opportunity to travel with an assigned sponser which may be from a different school district. Norma Llanes seconded the motion. Motion carried.

8. TSTC Spring 2006
Description:
Mr. Lara announced to the board that he was pleased with having 16 high school students attending TSTC in the afternoon this spring semester.

9. WCAD Board of Directors Election Results
Description:
Mr. Lara presented the board with a list of candidates who were recently elected to the Willacy County Appraisal District Board of Directors for 2006 - 2007.

10. West Orange Cove II Update
Description:
Mr. Lara presented the board with an update on the continuing legal battle involving school finance. He also included a summary of the supreme courts opinion on the West Orange Cove II case.

11. Legislative Update January 2006
Description:
Mr. Lara provided the Board of Trustees with a copy of the Legislative update which covers issues involving education taht will affect school districts.

12. Consideration and Approval of IDEA Academy Amendment
Description:
Nora Vasquez made a motion to approve an amendment to the IDEA Academy charter which will allow them to increase their maximum enrollment from 975 to 4,800. Frances Rodriguez-Braswell seconded the motion. Motion carried.
