4. Land Acknowledgement
Description:
Bering Strait School District acknowledges that we live and work on the traditional lands of the Inupiaq, St. Lawrence Island Yupik, and Central Yup'ik people, who have stewarded the land, air, and waters of the region for hundreds of years and continue to respectfully do so today. We are grateful that the local environment continues to provide clean air, water, and nutritious foods to the people of the Bering Strait region. Today, we meet on the ancestral lands of the U?alaqligmiut. The Unaliq, Qawiaraq, and Malimiut people of the Inupiaq and Yup’ik heritage. Unalakleet continues to serve as a gathering place for our Bering Strait, supporting events like the 1A basketball regional tournament taking place now, and housing the district office. Quyana - Taikuu U?alaqligmiut! On behalf of the Unalakleet School, we are happy to welcome you to the village of Unalakleet.
