4.A. Approval of Boundary Changes to CMS Elementary Schools. (ACTION)
Presenter:
Gerry C. Washburn, Superintendent
Discussion:
Map developed by Colleen Martinez after consultation with the transportation contractor. Moving to balance the enrollment across the District. New boundaries are in place for request out of zone. 74 entries so far, but only 54 are elementary requests. Most requests are honored. Changes needs to be made, bug struggling that people are purchasing their home, they make the decision with the current zone. Majority of complaints are from Sunset and Ocotillo. Most will be accommodated at Ocotillo. Sunset will be more difficult. The boundaries will have to be shifted. Transportation is a concern. Have reviewed the zones and we are doing our best to accommodate. A rubric was suggested to give parents more comfort as to what they are looking at regarding out of zone request. Will reach out to Los Alamos who have an existing rubric and will look at it. The District will try to accommodate as many students as possible. But there needs to be an end point. Different times for the school district, because of building and shifting schools. Definitely will try. Hard answers will be forthcoming. Asking parents to be patient, not trying to upset any one. Purchased home, but boundaries needs to be moved. Cant have overcrowded classrooms. IEP students needs to be reviewed as far as the Rubric.
