Presenter:
Board President
Discussion:
Opportunity Day tomorrow at CHS - all day - Board Members are invited.
School Calendar Requirements 2023-2024 School Year - HB 130 new requirements. Instructional Hours Requirement - Breakfast after the bell program; time can be included. K-5 minimum hours 1,080.. The minimum student learning hours or professional work hours per day is five and one-half (5.5) hours. Any combination of student learning hours and professional workhouse can meet the minimum requirements. All students must be scheduled to be present for student learning hours to qualify as instructional hours. Student learning hours and professional workhouses that are due to weather, unforeseen circumstances or other events must be made up, if such losses take a school below the minimum required total instructional hours per school year. PEd will not approve the budget if the school year and school day are not correct. You can not have fewer instructional hours than you did in the 22-23 school days. Trent Cornum - state mandating - not local. The teacher crisis and shortages will make it less enticing for them. Any ideas from the state on how to help with getting teachers. The governor did not believe enough days were added and did not want to sign. When it reached the floor of the house, amendments were added. This is a compromise and a better place for us to be. Commitment to our community and staff to keep the hours where they are. Start and stop times will have to be adjusted or a few days can be added without having to adjust the times.. Overcrowding at Desert Willow and Cottonwood. 6 portables will be placed at Desert Willow to address a shortage of classroom space during the summer. Looking into getting 6 additional portables. Looking at possible boundary changes on a temporary basis. Options will be presented at the next Board meeting. |

It gives board members the opportunity to chat with each other. Congratulations on the passing of the current Mill Levy.
Law Enforcement - 10 security positions total 4 CHS, 3 PRL and 3 AV and 2 additional were just hired. Two police officers are also in the schools. The sheriff's department suggested that if the pay could be increased, they could get former law enforcement officers to come out of retirement. At the Spring Budget an appeal was made, a bill 3 years ago - He appealed to legislators to review that bill again. If SRO's could be retired law enforcement and would be available consistently.
