Description:
Any citizen who would like to address the Board will be able to do so as the item on the regular agenda. Comments will be limited to 2 minutes per subject. If further time is needed, concerns should be addressed to the Superintendent. Personnel matters will not be discussed in a public meeting. Items that appear under the heading Routine and Regular Business will not be discussed or comments taken unless it is requested that they be removed from that category and placed on the regular agenda. Action on Routine and Regular Business will be acted upon with one motion and one vote.
Discussion:
Mr. Richard Pagano - taught and coached Cavegirl softball for 20 years. Softball has always been well supported by the Carlsbad community. May Morris first coach. She won the first Coach Tigert continued that success. Wants to rename the Cavegirl Field. The John Tigert Softball Field.
Mr. Michael Velliux - retired postmaster, former board member 1993-2001. David Executive National High School - legendary softball coach from Carlsbad, NM - Coach of year 1996. nominated for different aspects for state of nm. National Hall of Fame inductee. Sport - National Honors - How he changed their lives. Name the field John Tigert. Tammy Alexander - Strongly recommend the softball field named by John Tigert. Dedication to this program. Opportunity to play collegiate program. Recommend it be named under Coach Tigert. Cindy Sowers - Elementary teacher at Ocotillo Elementary - Encourage the district to name the softball field after John Tigert. Long and successful career. Huge impact in her life. success as a player, teacher. Many life lessons learned from Coach Tigert. Deserving of such an honor. |

1) CTE Recognition - Ms. Scruggs and Mr. Roy DeLaGarza - February - CTE month awareness- to show gratitude and support for CTE. 2) NM Board Certification Recognition - Permian Strategic Partnership - Second teacher to complete the process - Kayme Duarte. 3) Recognition of WIPP, R-360 and United Way - Community Organization -Bikes, gifts, jackets, continuous support. 9-10 years (over 100 here) 314 surrounding community! United Way - bought gifts, wrapped gifts and supported students! WIPP - Provide jackets for students in need. (310 jackets) for CMS Students. 4) Opportunity Culture Report - Anders Campbell (Project Lead) and Team (Kendall King, Jessica Struhs, Colin Hanrahan, Cecilia Burtis, Tanisha Dasmunshi Public Impact -dramatically improve learning outcomes for all students. A National Initative, Texas, NM, AZ, North Carolina. Staff averages increase after they start opportunity culture. Opportunity Culture Principles: 1. reach more students 2. Pay teachers more 3) regular budget 4) planning, collaboration and development 5. Authority and Accountability. Vision statement - create intentional school level structure that support,and grow, and retains excellent educators. Results for all students, maximize teacher retention and student learning outcomes. 3 main roles - Multi-classroom Leader: Team Reach Teacher & Master Tam Reach Teacher 3) Reach Associate. District Design Roadmap - Site Visit to Permian - Begin Bi-weekly meetings - Begin District design sessions - second site visit. District Design Roadmap - OC Career Ladder, Financial Sustainability, BEI & Selection, Evaluation & Accountability, School Plan Approval - Biweekly calls and as needed support for the teams. District design team action steps - Year 1 Designing Schools - Cottonwood, Desert Willow, CIS PR Leyva and Special Education Department School Design Roadmap - start talking to school teams - Staffing Plans and Sustainable funding then school schedules and role schedules and then OC Role Selection What makes this program better successful? - Tailored to needs to district and then the school - Student focused through multi classroom leader. Classroom setting. Opportunity Culture gave every classroom to be engaged both students and teachers. To Improve our staff, and allowing every student to improve. Opporunity allows teacher to improve their pay, but helping other teachers improve, but able to improve other teachers and remain in the classroom and not having to leave the classroom to make additional money (stipends). Helps to build stronger teachers. (building teachers in their leadership) Additional Supports- coaching calls, District Touchpoints, and Professional Learning.. |
