Description: 
BACKGROUND: As a good practice, the board should accept the consent agenda for the evening's meeting which includes the minutes of the July 31, 2019  board retreat.

RECOMMENDATION: It is the recommendation of the superintendent that the consent agenda be reviewed and accepted.

Description: 
BACKGROUND: At the end of 2018-19 we posted for a 3rd grade teacher because of projected enrollment. Alison Marek, a recent Western Michigan University graduate, was one of the applicants. Her data sheet and information are attached. 

RECOMMENDATION: It is the recommendation of the superintendent and the elementary principal to approve the hire of Alison Marek as a 3rd grade elementary teacher.

BACKGROUND: Angie Saltzman resigned at the end of 2018-19 and her position was posted. Meredith Spicer, a Western Michigan University graduate, applied. The district will get Meredith an emergency certification in special ed until she completes her Masters in Special Ed next year. Her data sheet and information are attached.

RECOMMENDATION: It is the recommendation of the superintendent and the elementary principal to approve the hire of Meredith Spicer as an elementary special ed teacher.

BACKGROUND: Rejean Kangas resigned at the end of 2018-19 and his position was posted. John Salem, a graduate of University of Michigan Flint (Bachelors) and Eastern Michigan University (Masters), was one of six applicants interviewed. His data sheet and information are attached.

RECOMMENDATION: It is the recommendation of the superintendent and the jr/sr high school principal to approve the hire of John Salem as jr/sr high school science teacher.

Description: 
BACKGROUND: After 28 years as our Spanish teacher, Amy Drake retired at the end of 2018-19, and her position was posted. It has been very difficult to fill this position. Matthew Price, a Western Michigan University graduate certified in English and history, applied for the position. The district will get an emergency certification for him to teach Spanish, and Matt will enroll in the required 18 credits of Spanish in order to get this additional certification within the next three years. Matt's data sheet and information are attached.  

RECOMMENDATION: It is the recommendation of the superintendent and the jr/sr high school principal to approve the hire of Matthew Price as jr/sr high school Spanish teacher.

BACKGROUND: In June the BOE approved a non-renewal for the varsity boys' basketball coach. The position was posted and four applicants were interviewed, including Matthew Price, who has coached at Niles, Bangor and Kalamazoo Central High Schools. RECOMMENDATION: It is the recommendation of the superintendent, the jr/sr high school principal, and the athletic department to  approve the hire of Matt Price as varsity boys' basketball coach.

Description: 
BACKGROUND: The most recent county consortium agreement has expired, and the county superintendents have developed a new one-year agreement, subject to automatic one-year extensions (unless the parties involved decide to terminate the Agreement). A draft of the agreement was reviewed at the board retreat. The final copy of the agreement is attached.

RECOMMENDATION: Approve the SJC CTE Consortium Agreement as presented.
