10.3. Update- Consolidation plan and timeline with Exeter-Milligan
Discussion:
Mr. Segner gave a recap of the process of considering the school consolidation with Exeter-Milligan. The current discussion began last fall with E-M requesting that Friend co-op all sports for 20-21, and Friend countered that they would consider this if consolidation was also discussed. A feasibility study was contracted by both E-M and Friend BOE's. Those findings were presented to our board on January 13, 2020. A series of full board and committee meetings have been held since that time. The Board presented a number of talking points to the patrons: Unification vs Consolidation; will not pursue sports co-op in 20-21; financial state, budgets, taxes, and bond; school board composition; 15 year agreement to use buildings as designated; student enrollments; grade levels PS and K-5 in Exeter, PS and 6-12 in Friend; Milligan school building payments $150,000 a year for 30 years to Village of Milligan; upcoming meeting dates -- joint August 5 in Exeter, Friend BOE August 10, Friend Special Mtg August 24; joint Sept. 2 in Friend, Friend BOE September 16; information packets will be distributed to community in the next 7-10 days.
