February 8, 2023 at 6:00 PM - Independent School District 507 Regular School Board Meeting

Description:  The school board meeting is a meeting in the public, not a public meeting.  Nicollet School Board Policy provides that persons who wish to have a subject discussed at a public school board meeting are encouraged to notify the superintendent’s office in advance of the school board meeting.  The school board chair will recognize one speaker at a time and will rule out of order other speakers who are not recognized, violations of data privacy, or inappropriate comments.

Description: 

1. A workshop for the school board is scheduled for February 15 at 5:00 p.m.  This will be an opportunity to clarify the intent and application of Policy 606 Textbooks and Instructional Materials.  Then, the policy can be considered for adoption in March.  The workshop will also be an opportunity for board members to share information from the recent MSBA conference.

 

2. The Greater Nicollet Area Community Foundation has begun fundraising for our new daycare playground.  A brochure they are using is attached.  

 

3. The 2023 legislative session is underway.  The superintendent will provide an update at the meeting.

 

4. The calendar is important to all stakeholders.  The calendar committee, which includes representatives from teachers, parents, administration, non-certified staff, and students.  The committee will meet February 15.  The calendar, developed by the committee, is recommended to the superintendent.  We will begin developing the calendar two years in advance.  This will be helpful for scheduling events and advance planning for school staff and parents.  So, this year the committee will develop calendars for the 2023-24 and 2024-25 school years.  The calendars will be submitted to the school board at the March or April meeting.

Description:  The superintendent recommends approviing the consent agenda.

Description:  MS 123B.02, Subd. 6 permits the school board to accept donations or gifts for the benefit of the district.  The Superintendent recommends approving the donations received.

Description:  The superintendent recommends that the school board approve the following changes to the student handbook.

VI. GRADUATION HONORS 
All students with a grade point average of 3.33 shall graduate with honors. All students with a grade point average of 3.67 shall graduate with high honors.  
 
The valedictorian and salutatorian, as determined by the highest and second highest gpa from credits taught on the Nicollet Public School Campus, shall be invited to speak at graduation.  The valedictorian and salutatorian must be members .  in good standing of the Nicollet High School National Honor Society.  To qualify as valedictorian or salutatorian a student must have been full-time having earned at least 22 credits taught on the Nicollet Public School Campus.  The acceptance of credits transferred from other high schools will be determined by the principal. If one declines, to speak at graduation, there shall be one speaker. If both decline, faculty members shall select a student representative from the high honors honorees to speak at graduation.
