October 3, 2014 at 4:00 PM - Superintendent's Weekly Update to the Board of Education
Agenda |
---|
1. Review and Comment for Minnesota Department of Education
Description:
Please see attached the review and comment we have ready to send the Commissioner of Minnesota Department of Education. Chris Kubesh at MDE will provide us with feedback and suggested/necessary changes. The Royalton School Board will need to approve of the review and comment at the October board meeting. We must allow MDE 60 days to review and approve it. Then, it must be published four our public 20 days in advance of the special election. |
2. Special Election Ballot
Description:
Please find attached the special election question prepared by Tom Deans Attorney at Law Knutson, Flynn & Deans, P.A. I forwarded the special election ballot question to Don Lifto, Paul Youngquist, and Mike Schoenecker for their feedback. Mary and I need the same review and feedback from you board members. The ballot question should be good to go because this is what Tom Deans does all the time for school district elections, but that doesn't mean the Board may not want it to be more or less wordy. Tom's services are to keep us within the legal requirements for these ballot questions. Also, know the $26,145,000 includes all uses of the bonds (see attached file). The $24,935,000 is the "Deposit to Project Construction Fund" (or) more simply put the amount of dollars actually available for construction. Also, you should already know from previous documents and conversations but the $26,145,000 is without the interest. Like buying a house and having a mortgage with principal and interest payments. :-( |
3. Positive Feedback about Royalton Volleyball Athletes!
Description:
Please see attached a positive email describing the behaviors of our volleyball players while competing in Isle, MN. These emails always make a school administrator's month. |
4. Community and School Partnership
Description:
Mr. Swenson shared with me that Leah Lemmerman (Shelby, Courtney, and Ashley’s mom) is willing to donate services anytime to help out the school. She owns a powder coating/finishing company. |
5. After School Monitor at MS/HS
Description:
Please know we do not have an after school monitor at the MS/HS. Mr. Swenson has had the position advertised since June and re-posted it a second time in hopes of catching someone's attention. We did not receive a single applicant. |
6. Activities/Athletics Eligibility
Description:
Mr. Swenson shared with me yesterday afternoon the MS/HS activities/athletics eligibility will be suspended for a period of time while the teachers and he create a new requirements that better fits KUDO. KUDO is the teachers new grading system that means "know, understand, and can do." |
7. Good and Sufficient Grounds and Arbitration Decision is Public Document
Description:
Please see attached Kevin Rupp's response about withholding salary step increases based "good and sufficient grounds" and Erin Chisholm's arbitration hearing a non-confidential public document. |
8. Compliance with HITA
Description:
Please see attached Education Minnesota's accusation that NJPA did not follow the new HITA requirements when going out for health insurance bids. Also, see attached NJPA's response and an email I sent to Mr. Presler, REM President. It's about money for Education Minnesota and not what is necessarily good for school districts or individual employee's family. |
9. Approval of Weekly Bills
Description:
Please see attached the weekly bills for your approval. |
