This is an open meeting of the Gibbon City Council. The City of Gibbon abides by the Open Meetings Act in conducting business. A copy of the Open Meetings Act is displayed on the north wall of the Council Chambers as required by state law.  The City Council may vote to go into Closed Session on any agenda item as allowed by state law.

RESOLUTION NO. 2019-11


A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF GIBBON, BUFFALO COUNTY, NEBRASKA, TO SET THE PROPERTY TAX REQUEST FOR 2019-2020.
WHEREAS, Nebraska Revised Statute 77-1601.02 provides that if the property tax request exceeds the property tax request for the prior year that the Governing Body of the City of Gibbon may do so after holding a public meeting and passing a resolution by a majority vote; and,
WHEREAS, a special public meeting was held as required by law to hear and consider comments regarding the property tax request; and,
WHEREAS, it is in the best interests of the City of Gibbon that the property tax request for the current year exceed the amount of the property tax request for the prior year; and,
WHEREAS, the amount of the property tax request is $514,529.00; and,
WHEREAS, the total assessed value of the property differs from last year’s total assessed value by 12%; and,
WHEREAS, the tax rate which would levy the same amount of property taxes as last year when multiplied by the new total assessed value of property would by 0.456467 per $100 of assessed value; and,
WHEREAS, the City of Gibbon proposes to adopt a property tax request that will cause its tax rate to be 0.494998 per $100 of assessed value; and,
WHEREAS, based on the proposed property tax request and changes in other revenue the total operating budget for the City of Gibbon will be less than last year’s by -1%.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by Mayor and City Council of Gibbon, by a majority vote, resolves that:
1.         The 2019-2020 property tax request be set at:
                        General:         $363,808.00
                        Bond:             $150,721.00
2.         A copy of this Resolution be certified and forwarded to the County Clerk prior to October 13, 2019.

4.1. Next Regular Council Meeting will be Monday, October 21, 2019 at 7:00 p.m.
