We meet on the third Tuesday of the month at 7:00 P.M. for our regular meeting at the Wilco Vocational Center, Hopkins Road, Lockport. Wilmington transports one bus load of students to the Wilco Area Career Center daily for the P.M. session to develop occupational skills. (The meeting date may change after the WILCO Board reorganizes). Three Rivers' Governing Board The Illinois Association of School Boards Three Rivers Division Governing Board consists of a Board Member from each school district in Will, Kankakee and Grundy Counties. IASB Delegate/Legislative Liaison Your delegate will go to the annual meeting, (November Conference in Chicago), prepared to represent the views of our Board. Resolutions and proposed Constitution changes are considered. The primary function of your IASB Legislative Liaison will be to receive all legislative mailings from the Association and to share the information locally as specified by your Board. (Your Superintendent will also continue to receive these mailings.) Some Boards will want the Legislative Liaison to provide some or all members with duplicate copies of mailed materials. Others will want regular legislative reports at each meeting. Another important function would be to call Board attention to any legislation or other matter that is of special local importance. The job of the Legislative Liaison can be as big or as small as the individual wishes to make it. Where the School Board wishes to become more directly involved in the legislative process, for example, the IASB Legislative Liaison might undertake such roles as the following: ... Keeping in touch with local legislators and informing them of the School Board's views on important issues. ... Acting on legislative alerts from IASB by rallying the school board and its supporters to contact their legislators. ... Coordinating all local action on legislative matters. ... Involving local community groups and news media in building public support for school funding and other issues before the General Assembly. ... Serving as the Board's delegate to the IASB Delegate Assembly. TAB/Leadership Committee Meets four times a year (if needed) on a committee with Teachers, Administrators and Board Member to discuss concerns of the district. HANDBOOK/DISCIPLINE COMMITTEE The Handbook/Discipline Committee meets to review the Discipline Policy before writing the Parent/Student Handbook. FOUNDATION FOR EXCELLENCE Wilmington School District No. 209-U Foundation is committed to provide funds to enrich the experiences and opportunities necessary to maximize the academic school-to-work and social growth of students, faculty and administration. BOARD POLICY COMMITTEE Wilmington School District 209-U subscribes to the IASB Press for updating of Board Policies. New or updated policies are sent quarterly. Dr. Swick reviews the policies and sends them to the Administrators and Board Committees for their review before presenting them to the Board for the first and second readings. NEGOTIATIONS COMMITTEE The Agreement with the Certified Staff expires in August 2028. The Agreement with the Educational Support Staff expires in August of 2015. The Administration and Board Committee meets with the Union Bargaining Committee during negotiations. The Administration and Board Committee makes a recommendation to the entire Board. |
