6.3.1. Consideration to Approve One Year Leave of Absence for Joy Wollin for 2013-14 School Year
Presenter:
Rich Hanson
Description:
Ms. Wollin's request for a one year leave of absence will enable her to continue working with our children in the capacity of a Minnesota Reading Corp Tutor. We have had a Reading Corp Tutor for a number of years, but they are employed by Americorp rather than the School District. Our current tutor is resigning so as to complete the requirements for her teaching license. By taking the leave of absence and working for Americorp, Ms. Wollin, will be eligible for a tuition waiver provided to Americorp employees. She will use the waiver to pursue her teaching degree. Approval is recommended.

7.2.1. Student Enrollment
Presenter:
Rich Hanson
Description:
Our year end enrollment figures are in. The key number to look at is the average for the year as enrollment funding is based on the amount of time a student is actually here. As an example, if a student enrolls at the beginning of the second semester, we received funding for him/her for half the year. You will note our average is 1060.7. That is 5.7 students more than we based our budget on. Thus we received funding for an additional 5.7 students.

9. NEW BUSINESS
|
9.1. Consideration to Adopt a Resolution Authorizing Le Sueur-Henderson Public Schools Community Education to enter into a Lease Agreement with a Licensed Motor Vehicle Dealer to Lease a Driver's Education Vehicle
Presenter:
Rich Hanson
Description:
I recommend approval of the following recommendation to address the need for a driver's education vehicle.
The Driver Education vehicle needs a major engine repair. The cost to fix the vehicle according to La Belle's is $6,000. The car is only worth $7,000 if running well. I looked to both Wolf Motors and Matt Saxe at the best options for Driver Education. It became clear right away that a 3 year lease would be the best fit, as we do not have enough cash to buy a new car. If we were to buy a used vehicle, it would not be under warranty - we do not want to be stuck in the same situation as we are now down the road. Matt Saxe Chevrolet has the best lease option for us. (Wolf Motors wouldn't lease a car for Dr. Ed.) I would recommend the Board approve the lease contract for Mr. Hanson to sign. The car is a new 2013 Chevy Malibu. Cost is $295/month for 36 months. Mileage is not to exceed 15,000 a year. Driver Ed. has scheduled behind the wheel trainings yesterday with students signed up to take their test this week. So we are receiving pressure from the instructors to act quickly and get students their hours behind the wheel. I would also recommend that the shop class use the old driver education vehicle as a class project to take apart the old engine, put in a new one, and hopefully have it up and running late next fall.
