Public Comment Sign In Procedure - Anyone wishing to address the Board of Education must submit a written request form, found on the public’s table, prior to Public Comments.

The Board reserves the right to move into closed session to protect the public interest or needless injury to the reputation of an individual for any action item listed on the agenda. The Board may, at its discretion, change the order of the agenda to accommodate unforeseen issues related to an agenda item.

Rationale: 

The Ralston Board of Education appreciates the public's right to provide public comment.  It is the practice of the Ralston Board to listen to the public comment, without discussion between the public and the Board.  Should you have a question or ask for follow-up from the Board, the Board President will direct the Superintendent to address the requests and provide additional information to you as appropriate.  We ask that you refrain from personal comments about individuals and the use of vulgar or inappropriate language in addressing the Board. 

The board will generally allow a total of 30 minutes for the presentation of all public comments.  Individuals may only speak one time per topic and must limit comments to around three (3) minutes. In the event more than 10 individuals wish to address the board, the 30 minutes will be divided equally between the number of speakers. At the discretion of the Board President or Chair, speakers may be allotted additional time.

At this time the Ralston Public Schools Board of Education will entertain public comment.

Rationale: 

Consent agenda items include minutes from the February 24th meeting; February Financial Reports, February bills in the amount of $710,573.67 for the General Fund, and $16,300.00 for the Building Fund. Prior to the meeting Robin Richards and Liz Kumru reviewed the bills. 

Recommend:  The following teacher(s) be hired for the 2020-21 school year:

Jenna Workman - BA-University of Nebraska, Kearney; MA-University of Nebraska,Omaha.  English teacher at RHS.  (Previous Experience: Omaha Public Schools 2013-2020.)
Britany Johnson - BA-University of Nebraska,Omaha; MA-Doane College.  Grade 6 teacher at Seymour Elementary.  (Previous Experience: DC West 2019-20; Ralston Public Schools 2014-19)
Aaron Molinaro - BA-Wayne State.  PE/Aquatics at RHS.  (Previous Experience: Omaha Public Schools 2017-20)

Recommend:  The following teacher(s) resignations be accepted:

Alexa McEvoy - English teacher at RHS

Rationale:  Mrs. Ashley Holmes and Dr. Cecilia Wilken will provide an overview of the school improvement plan and process for Wildewood Elementary School.

Rationale:  Dr. Adler will update the Board of Education on the current instructional time for the District for the 2019-2020 school year.  This update will include a proposed action plan to address the two missed contract days for certified staff.

Policy 6002 School Calendar; Policy 6003 Instructional Program.

Rationale:  Dr. Wilken and Mr. Casey Knight will discuss some proposed changes to the Outdoor Education Program within Ralston Public Schools.

Policy 6027 Field Trips

Rationale:  Dr. Mark Adler and Mr. Mike Smith will provide an update about the progress of the newly formed Trailblazer Conference in which Ralston is a founding member starting with the 2020-2021 school year.

Policy 6028 The Extracurricular Activities Program; Policy 2022 Reporting to the Public.

Rationale:  Dr. Cecilia Wilken will provide an overview of the Danielson Framework for Teaching to the Board of Education.  The Danielson Framework is the instruction and evaluation model used within Ralston Public Schools.

Policy 6003 Instructional Program; Policy 6004 Curriculum Development and Assessment. 

Rationale:  Mr. Buckingham will update the Board of Education on several grounds and facilities projects that are upcoming.  Those project include:

• Ralston Middle School Gym Floor 
• E-Rate Technology Systems Purchases
• Stadium Construction Details

Rationale: 

Dr. Adler and Mrs. Richards will update the Board regarding Legislative issues.

Rationale:  As we have been reviewing our policies we found two policies with different numbers that addressed the same issue.  We have worked with our policy service and are proposing this DRAFT Policy 5019 which is a combination of what was in place previously.  Once this draft is reviewed we will bring it back for approval at the March 23rd meeting of the Board of Education.
