3. Land Acknowledgement
Description:
Truth and acknowledgment are critical to building mutual respect and connection across differences. Please take a moment to consider the many legacies of violence, displacement, migration, and settlement that bring us together here today. The Parkrose Board of Education begins this effort by acknowledging that we are gathering on the ancestral and unceded lands of the Chinook, Multnomah, Kathlamet, Clackamas, Cowlitz, Tualatin, Kalapuya, Molalla and many other tribes who made their homes along the Columbia River in the Portland area. We pay respect to their elders past and present. We acknowledge them as the past, current and future caretakers of this land.

8.C. Interview Questions
Description:
1. What involvement have you had with Parkrose schools? As part of that connection, are you aware of any potential conflicts of interest—such as having a family member employed by the district—and how would you handle your role during those specific budget discussions? 2. Why do you want to be on the Parkrose Budget Committee? 3. What qualifications (background, training and/or abilities) will you bring to the budget committee? 4. Parkrose is currently navigating significant funding shortfalls while also managing aging facilities. One of the Board’s goals this year is to determine whether to pursue a Capital Bond (for facilities/repairs) or a Local Option Levy (for staff/programs). In your view, how should the Budget Committee evaluate the trade-offs between asking the community to fund long-term building needs versus immediate operational stability? 5. Parkrose is committed to using an Equity Lens in its decision-making. A Budget Committee member will be asked to serve on the District Educational Equity Advisory Committee. When faced with the necessity of budget cuts, how would you prioritize resources to ensure that the district continues to meet the needs of its most underserved or marginalized student populations? |
|
8.D. Discussion & Voting
Description:
The Board and Student Representatives will now discuss the applicants' strengths and share who they may be considering for these vacancies. Please note that while we value the input and recommendations of our Student Representatives, their roles are advisory and do not count toward the official board action.
Following our discussion, the Board will conduct one or more rounds of voting. Once a majority consensus is reached for two individuals, the Board will take official action to appoint the two new Budget Committee members. |
