I.E. Approval of Make-Up Days for Weather-Related School Closures on January 27 and 28, 2014
Description:
The Administration recommends approval of the following plan due to the recent weather-related school closing days:
January 27th School Closure: Make-up Day for Staff and Students on April 21 The School Board designates April 21, Spring Break Monday Holiday, as the make-up day for staff and students and designates January 27 as a holiday in lieu of April 21 for all contracts except custodians. For the custodial bargaining unit, the School Board designates March 7 as the holiday in lieu of April 21. All eligible staff receive holiday pay on January 27. January 28th School Closure: Make-up Day for Licensed Staff Only on June 9 or June 10 - School Board schedules professional development make-up day for licensed staff only. - All non-licensed staff use accumulative leave, vacation pay or full deduct to account for the January 28 absence per the contract provisions. - Licensed staff report as follows for make-up day: June 9: Elementary licensed staff make-up day - Anita Archer Professional Development; Secondary staff complete 1/2 day of teacher workshop per the contract. June 10: Secondary licensed staff make-up day - Anita Archer Professional Development; Elementary staff complete 1/2 day of teacher workshop per the contract. |
I.F. Call for Bids – Tech High School Ceiling Replacement Project
Description:
The Administration recommends that the Board of Education authorize a Call for Bids for Tech High School Ceiling Replacement Project to be opened on Thursday, March 6, 2014, at 2:00 p.m. Central Time.

I.G. Bid Award – Ceiling & Pipe Asbestos Abatement 2014 – Tech High School
Description:
The Administration recommends that the Board of Education award the bid for Ceiling & Pipe Asbestos Abatement 2014 – Tech High School as follows, based upon low bid received meeting specifications:
“A” Base Bid to VCI Environmental in the amount of $215,400 “B” Base Bid to Grivette Environmental in the amount of $133,000 “C” Base Bid to Titan Environmental in the amount of $41,000 As per the bid specifications, no asbestos abatement contractor or asbestos sub-contractor will be allowed to perform more than one of the three unique scopes of work which is why Base Bid “C” is being awarded to Titan Environmental even though their bid is higher. The Administration recommends rejecting Alternate Bids C1 and C2 at this time. This project is being funded with Health & Safety Funds. A bid tabulation is attached.

I.H. Bid Award – Pipe Re-insulation 2014 – Tech High School
Description:
The Administration recommends that the Board of Education award the bid for Pipe Re-insulation 2014 – Tech High School to Diamond Energy in the approximate amount of $18,790.00, based upon low bid received meeting specifications. Bid items #1 through #8 are prices for additional fittings/pipe runs which may or may not be needed. The need for these will be determined as the project progresses.
This project will be funded with Deferred Maintenance funds. A bid tabulation is attached.

I.I. Approval for Submission of Grant Application
Description:
The Administration recommends approval of a 21st Century Community Learning Center grant application to the Minnesota Department of Education by North, South, Apollo and Area Learning Center in the approximate amount of $300,000.00. The funding provided by the Minnesota 21st CCLC Grant Program is intended to address each of the following goals: 1) Increase participants' opportunities to develop and apply 21st Century skills; 2) Increase school and community connectedness of participants; 3) Increase the academic performance of participating students who are low performing/failing or at high risk of failure in core academic areas. Centers must operate a minimum of three (3) days per week and offer at least 420 hours per year, including a minimum four (4) weeks summer component. Activities will include literacy, STEM, arts and culture, youth leadership, family involvement, etc.
