Description:
MSBA Conference: Everyone is registered unless you have notified Angel about not attending.
January Meeting: We will be posting the January meeting date as January 8 beginning at 6:30 pm. This meeting will be the First Monday in January Organizational Meeting. The legislative session begins on February 12 and ends on May 21, 2024. This is about 6 weeks shorter than last session, so it looks to be very busy. The budget forecast will be out this week on Wednesday. This will be followed by the Governors budget in late January/early February. There will be a supplemental budget based on the forecast. Policy and funding topics that will likely be discussed in some capacity and related to schools would be: SRO's, Pension, READ Act, Per Pupil Formula, Special Education Paperwork and more. |

4. GIFTS
Description:
Policy 706 Acceptance of Gifts permits the school board to accept donations or gifts under the terms of the policy. I recommend accepting the gifts as described in the enclosure. Thank you to those who have donated to our schools and students.

5. WORLD'S BEST WORKFORCE REPORT SUMMARY
Description:
M.S. 120B.11 requires the school board to adopt the prior year World's Best Workforce Report Summary. In accordance with Becker School District Policy 601, I, along with Director of Curriculum and Instruction, Carla Nolan recommend adopting the 2022-2023 World's Best Workforce Report Summary.

6. FISCAL YEAR 2023 FINANCIAL AUDIT
Description:
Kevin Januszewski and I recommend approving the FY23 financial audit as presented. The June 30, 2023 unassigned fund balance is 8.96%. District Policy 714 Fund Balances states that the district will strive to maintain a minimum unassigned general fund balance of 8%. 2023 is the third year since 2009 to meet the policy requirement. 7. TRUTH IN TAXATION INFORMATION/PAYABLE 2024 LEVY
Description:
Truth in Taxation information will be presented by Kevin Januszewski, Director of Business Services. I recommend approving the payable 2024 levy in the amount of $12,386,628. This represents a 3.42% ($409,732) increase compared to the 2023 levy.

8. POLICY REVIEW
Description:
The Policy Committee proposes a review only of the following policies:
413 Harassment and Violence: Updates "sexual orientation" definition to match 2023 legislative change. 416 Drug, Alcohol & Cannabis Testing: Adds new references to cannabis testing; adds new provisions on cannabis testing and similar provisions. Our board-approved policies are attached, as well as MSBA's red-lined version.

9. 2024 COMMITTEE MEETING DATES
Description:
We have created a committee calendar for the 2024 calendar year. This will provide board members with the opportunity to see what works in their interests and schedule as committees are selected in January.

10. JANUARY ORGANIZATIONAL BOARD MEETING DATE
Description:
I am recommending January 8 for the Organizational School Board Meeting due to no school on January 1.
