3.A. The Briar Glen Student Spotlight will feature District 89 preschoolers Selina Anglo, Yuvansh Chakrahari, Trinity Davis, Jovie Dethmers, Diyazhini Karthik, Ava Marroquin, Farzona Otakhonova and Adriel Singletary, as they share some adventures that have taken place during the preschool school year. They will also share some of their favorite centers and even sing a song!

3.B. On May 4, Glen Crest student-athletes Quinn Ruden, Etienne Summers and Edward White competed in the 2025 Special Olympics Spring Games at Marmion Academy. Seventh grader Quinn competed in the 50-meter dash and tennis ball throw; sixth grader Etienne competed in the 50-meter dash; and seventh grader Eddie competed in the 50-meter dash and tennis ball throw. The head coach for Glen Crest Special Olympics is Glen Crest physical education teacher Kelly Tuggle. |
3.C. May 5 through May 9 was National Teacher Appreciation Week. We would like to express our appreciation to every CCSD 89 staff member who contributes to students' learning for life. Despite challenging circumstances over the last several school years, the staff have found innovative and inspiring ways to ensure students' academic success.

3.D. National School Nurse Day was celebrated on May 6, 2025. District 89 recognizes that nurses are critical to the health, safety and well-being of our students. They meet the needs of today’s students by providing and advocating for quality student-centered care and offer gratitude to the nation’s school nurses. We honor the work and commitment of our outstanding nurses: Amiya Aguilera, Linda Eledan, Shaniqua Hillary, Neena Kundra, Nicole Lenocker, Amy McKenna, Amy Mescher and Araceli Orozco.

3.E. Congratulations to the students who were honored at the recent DuPage Illinois Principals Association Student Recognition Breakfast. Students were selected who show exceptional leadership, responsibility and academic achievement.

3.F. Congratulations to the Glen Crest symphonic band and chorus students who had a successful day of competition on Saturday, May 10th at the "Music in the Parks Festival" at Six Flags Great America. The chorus and 7th/8th grade band traveled to Woodland Middle School in Gurnee, Illinois, for the competition and performed two pieces in front of the audience and judges. The Glen Crest students did an amazing job performing! There were music groups from schools in Illinois, Indiana, Minnesota and Missouri at the competition.
The rest of the day was spent at Six Flags Great America and concluded with an awards ceremony in the Wilderness Theater. The Glen Crest band and chorus were both awarded 2nd place trophies for class 1A and they also received "Superior" ratings. Ms. Berry, Mr. Garbar and Mr. Koppitz are proud of the hard work and dedication of all the music students this year. They would like to thank Mrs. Kline and Mr. Ladendorf for bringing along the orchestra to cheer on the band and chorus. They would also like to thank Mrs. Dietel, Mr. Dietel, Mrs. Jones and Mr. Santillanes for chaperoning the trip. |
3.G. Thank you to Billy Cruz, Michelle Featherstone, Nathalie Hanzel, Mary Ellen Rahn, Jackie Rickert, Kelly Scheffert, and Abbey Schroeder, who have served as the PTC presidents in our schools, for their tireless efforts and commitment to the students, staff and families of D89.

3.H. We would like to thank our student board members Emma Waldbusser and Brooke Wills. Emma and Brooke have been a welcomed addition to the CCSD 89 school board and provided great perspective representing the student community. Thank you, Emma and Brooke for your service to CCSD 89. We wish you the best in your future endeavors.

3.I. As the school year comes to a close, we offer our best wishes to the entire eighth grade class from Glen Crest Middle School. The Achievement Ceremony will be held on Thursday, May 29, 2025, at Wheaton Warrenville South High School at 7:00pm. We wish all our students good luck and success in high school!
