8.B.1. Consider adopting the K-12 Science Curriculum, as presented.
RELEVANT INFORMATION: Our last science curriculum adoption was in 2006. Arizona adopted new science standards in 2018. Our 2006 curriculum did not address the new standards. Teachers have been supplementing our current curriculum in order to teach the standards and ensure we are teaching science using best practices. A committee of K-12 teachers, administrators, district staff, instructional coaches, parents, and community members was created to review the curriculum. They developed criteria for evaluating the science curriculum based on state expectations, research, experience, and our current instructional framework. The committee explored 16 science curriculum programs, identified their strengths and weaknesses based on our developed criteria, and came to a consensus on a recommendation for a K-12 science curriculum adoption. This curriculum has been on public review since April 21, 2023. The K-12 science curriculum review committee determined they would like to use: McGraw Hill as their K-5 science curriculum Savvas as their 6-12 science curriculum Presenter: Kelsey Secor, Director of Instructional Support |
