Description: 

The School Board encourages public participation and values community input. However, meetings must remain orderly, respectful, and lawful. This policy outlines how the public may speak at Board meetings while protecting the privacy rights of students and employees.
 

General Guidelines

• Community members are welcome to speak about school-related topics.

• The Board may set reasonable rules for when and how people speak to ensure everyone has a fair opportunity.

• The Board must follow state and federal laws that protect private employee and student information.

Privacy Protections

Certain information about employees and students, especially complaints, discipline, or private data, cannot be discussed publicly. In some cases, such topics must be handled in closed session or through established procedures.

 

Speaking at a Board Meeting

• The Board Chair will recognize one speaker at a time.

• Time limits or spokesperson requirements may be set for larger groups.

• Personal attacks, inappropriate language, or disclosure of private data will not be allowed.

• If a topic involves accusations or confidential matters, it may be redirected through the appropriate complaint process instead of being discussed publicly.

  Board Action on Public Comments

  Except in emergencies, the Board will not make immediate decisions on issues raised for the first time during public comment.
