Executive Difrector was present to share updates for the SRS staff report. SRS continues to improve as they work through the outstanding tickets. There are still some minor issues that they continue to work through. Anthony Maggio was hired and has been a good addition to the team. The SRS Advisory team met in December and was a productive meeting. Enhancing SRS in adding other features. They are discussing adding the 504 to the SRS system. Other things discussed are MTSS that could be added.

Brad Best (Heartland Community Schools) is working on a LB759 for DHHS on foster kids. This bill will allow more communications prior to student entering a school district. There are some questions/concerns with this bill.
From Jean Anderson - One measure introduced today, LB 759, was introduced by Senator Mark Kolterman on behalf of NCSA. LB 759 relates to communication between DHHS and school districts. Currently, there is no required consultation with a district from DHHS prior to placing a child within a district's boundaries. While the department's own placement letter states that "it is in (the child)'s educational best interest to attend" a particular school district, the department does not consult with the school to determine the availability of services or consider many other educational factors in making this decision. LB 759 was brought to NCSA by Mr. Brad Best, Superintendent, Heartland Community Schools. |
