3.1. High Quality Instructional Materials Fellowship
Speaker(s):
Cory Epler
Agenda Item Type:
Information Item
Discussion:
Cory Epler was present to share updates High Quality Instructional Materials Fellowship. Every NE student deserves the opportunity to learn from high-quality instructional materials tthat help prepare tgen fr success in college, career, and civic life. A significant portion of teachers lasck access to standrads-aligned high qualoity instructional material, making it difficult to provide standards-based instruction. Teachers lack access to resources or professional learning that could fill this gap and help build teir knowledge about aligned instrauctional practices. Instructional materials vary dramatically in levels for standards alignment and quality. There is a lot of variable in what is considered high-quality. Teachers are spending a lot of time creating materials. Teachers are discovering the gaps and going to online resources such as Teachers Pay Teachers, Google, Pinterest, etc. TEachers spend about 12 hours a week creating materials. Nebrasak was one of eight states asked to be a part of CCSO, this has been a great resouce for the Instructional Materials work. Phase 1 - Fall 2017-Spring 2019 - they asked schools what were the most common used instructional materials being used in classrooms. Worked on how do they distinguish what high -quality materials and how to select these quality materials. Instructional Materials: Tools and resources used as part of a locally determined curriculm. www.nematerialsmatters.org Nebraska Instricutional Materials Collaborative. Materials matter for all Nebraska students. English, Language Arts, Mathematics, and Science as provided by Ed Reports. Create documents that bridge EdReports reviews and Nebraskas' College and Career Ready Standards. Includes a toolkit with resources, events, and research that supports instructional materials selection and implementation. EdReports uses green (meets), yellow (partially meets), and red(doesn't meet) criteria to reivew their reports. They will release Foudation Skills this Fall. EdReports allow vendors to respond to their reviews. Some vendors have changed their product because of the EdReport review. Shared data on Instructional Materials in Nebraska. They have had repsonses from about 85% of schols in NE. Phase 2 - Spring 209-Spring 2021 - They want to collect data and share with schools. Focus on developing, faciliatin and evaluation materials that build educator knowledge and skills related to the instructional materials adoption process, instructional shifts, etc. OER items are reviewed for quality and alignment. EL Eduacation and Eureka Math are portions of the OER. Sixteen Districts and two ESUs will be part of this process. Currently about 75 participants in the fellowship. MTSS is using the Program Comparison Chart. Shared that schools can refer back to this chart. Every student needs an intervention of some kind (strong core instruction) Nebraska Reads website has this chart. https://www.education.ne.gov/nebraskareads/.

ESUs will hold an cooperative agreements for contracted support. Provide professional development and technical supports for the regions. They provided four awareness trainings, they are building out academic and behavior/emaotional supports. 1200 educators attended the MTSS Summit. 82% were general educators. Why MTSS under Special Ed - they have funding and they can help move the needle forward with support. Educate everyone. MTSS PDO workgroup has been building excellent supports through their work. Discussion:
SRS Report - Zend Framework 3 conversion. We continue to fix bugs on a daily basis. Progress on this front has slowed over the past two weeks as we
have shifted our focus toward building the ADVISER features. We have been providing frequent updates on our progress toward fixing bugs. ADVISER Progress - We have divided development tasks amongst Scott, Mike, and Teodor. Mike - Collecting and coding data from SPED documents. Teodor - Building reports and updating form changes. Scott - Code to interact with the ADVISER system. Wade - System design, testing, gathering information. Our goal is to release these new features on October 1st Overview of the System Workflow - Initially, we will upload all active records, and records which have been exited on or after July 1, 2019. As new forms become finalized, updated information will be transmitted to ADVISER within two hours. ADVISER will analyze data as it is submitted and will either accept it or reject it. Users can refer to a report on SRS to see the status of all of their students and to make corrections to their data as needed. ADVISER Report - Will show what data has been transmitted, and whether the data was accepted or rejected. We will have a data override form that districts can use to quickly and easily made data corrections as needed. Not on ADVISER Report - This report will show which students were NOT on the ADVISER Report and why No State ID#. Exclude from Ed-Fi checkbox is checked, Missing IEP data, Missing MDT data |
