V.C. Unified School Summit
Description:
8th Graders Will B. and Maya P. did a fantastic job representing MacArthur Middle School and District 23 at the statewide Special Olympics Unified Champion Schools Youth Activation Summit. As leaders on the Youth Activation Committee, they presented on the topic of "Elevating Your Program and Developing SMART Goals" to over 400 middle schoolers across the state of Illinois via Zoom.

V.D. Elf Express
Description:
District 23 staff will be visiting the neighborhoods to spread joy and deliver some treats for the kids between 3:30-4:30 on Wednesday, 12/20. Families should consult their newsletter for times and locations.

Description:
President: "On November 9, 2023, the Board of Education adopted an estimated tax levy for 2023 as developed by the Assistant Superintendent for Finance & Operations and the Finance Committee. At this time, the Board wishes to conduct a Truth-in-Taxation Public Hearing for the purpose of allowing anyone to address the Board regarding the 2023 Certificate of Tax Levy."

IX.A. Resolution providing for and requiring the submission of the proposition of increasing the District’s limiting rate to the voters of the District at the general primary election to be held on March 19, 2024 - ACTION
Description:
The Board will next consider the adoption of a resolution providing for and requiring the submission of the proposition of increasing the District’s limiting rate to the voters of the District at the general primary election to be held on March 19, 2024 for the purpose of installing security equipment and replacing windows, siding and doors at MacArthur Middle School, Anne Sullivan Elementary School, Betsy Ross Elementary School and Eisenhower Elementary School, expanding and renovating Eisenhower Elementary School for full day kindergarten and for other school purposes.

IX.C. School Day Start/End Times - INFORMATION
Description:
During our most recent contract negotiations, the Board of Education and the Prospect Heights Education Association (PHEA) worked collaboratively to come to an agreement to extend the D23 Elementary School Day by 30 minutes, starting in the 2024-25 school year. The primary purpose of this action is to align District 23’s elementary school day with the neighboring Districts, thereby providing additional time for teaching and learning.

IX.D. Final Tax Levy, Supplemental Tax Levies, and Apportionment Resolution for the 2023 Tax Year - ACTION
Description:
The 2023 Tax Year Levy and two Supplemental Tax Levies for the 2021 and 2022 bond issuances have been included for approval. Also included are the Resolutions for Apportionment and IMRF as developed by Chapman and Cutler.

IX.E. Security Camera Plan - Phase 1 ACTION
Description:
The administration is recommending moving forward with the replacement and expansion of security camera systems. Following the unsuccessful COPS Grant Process, a more phased approach will allow for the installations to be spread over two fiscal years. Pending Board approval, Phase 1 will take place over the winter break.

IX.F. Transportation Extension - ACTION
Description:
As discussed with the Finance Committee last week, the proposed one-year renewal with First Student has been attached for Board review. District 21 and District 23 have tentatively agreed upon a 7.5% increase over the 2023-24 route costs.
