Description:
BACKGROUND INFORMATION
Rick Sansted will share with the board the "206 Points of Pride." The persons being recognized this month are: The Girls Basketball Team had a great season, earning the titles of Conference Champions and Section Champions and earning a trip to the State Tournament. Our Boys Basketball Team also had a great season, taking the Conference Champion and Section Champion titles and placing 2nd at the MN State Basketball Tournament. The Girls Hockey Team also took the Section Champion title and played in the State Tournament. Our Wrestling Team took 2nd in Section Academic competition with an average GPA of 3.68. Individual Academic All Section Wrestlers include AJ Sparr, Cole Vatnsdal, Kelly Johnson, Tate Runge and JP Rodel. The Knowledge Bowl Team earned a trip to the State Knowledge Bowl Meet, where they placed 24th in the AA Division. Girls Nordic Ski Team members Kaisa Bosek, Jaelyn Miller, Emma Reineke, Kamryn Coauette, Lauren Huber, Dulce Bakker, and Teresa Bitzan earned a chance to compete at the State Nordic Ski Tournament with Amanda Bergerson and Lauren Englund securing spots as alternates. The Boys Swimming and Diving Team earned a Gold Award Standard for having a team GPA over 3.75, while Ethan Johnson was honored individually by the MN State Coaches Association for his 4.0 GPA during the swimming & diving season. Boys Swimming and Diving State Tournament participants included Caden Kavanagh and Aidan Staples in diving and Thomas Williams, Logan Tung, Ethan Johnson, Torrey Olson-Rodel, Anthony Hoyt, Carter Holm, Nicolas Welle and Erik Reineke in various swimming events. Over the course of the Swimming and Diving post-season, multiple records were set and honors achieved:
All State Honors were also awarded to the following swimmers:
Mason McGrane finished 6th in the Class AA State Wrestling Tournament and earned All State honors. Additional wrestlers competing in the State Tournament included Blaze Nelson, Kelly Johnson, Tate Runge, Mason Teaser and Luke Maanum. Senior, Kelsey Fletcher, earned a trip to the State Gymnastics Meet, where she competed in floor, vault and bars competition. Many DECA students have qualified for international competition:
Coach Aaron Rooney was named Section 5A Diving Coach of the Year and was chosen to judge Class AA diving at the State Tournament this year. Wendy Kohler was chosen this year’s Section 8AAA Head Girls Basketball Coach of the Year, while Section 8AAA Assistant Girls Basketball Coach of the Year was awarded to Julie Wrobel. Molly Arola has been named Section 8AA Head Girls Hockey Coach of the Year. Senior, Grace Nowling-Morgen, was selected as an Aspirations in Computing Award Honoree in the Rising Star category. This honor is given to students who have attained some technology skills and demonstrated a commitment to continue to strengthen their skills and exploration of the field. Nicolas Witt placed 4th and Marc Magaard placed 7th in the MN State Archery Tournament, high school division. In the middle school division, Ethan Giese placed 5th and Ian Johnson took 7th place. Discovery Middle School had three students qualify for the State MATHCOUNTS competition: Alex Rodriguez, Sigfried Henrich and Thomas Dutcher. Two 6th grade Math Masters teams completed in the regional competition in March. A total of 19 teams from across Minnesota participated in the event. Both District teams finished in the top 3, with several students taking individual honors. The DMS Team 1, comprised of Thomas Dutcher, Alex Rodriguez, Sigfried Henrich, Elizabeth Wagner, and Grant Juelke, placed 2nd overall. The DMS Team 2, comprised of Jameson McAdoo, Hunter Krebs, Ezequiel Rodriguez, and Josh Makalinao, placed 3rd overall. The following students placed in the Fact Drill competition: Josh Makalinao (tied for 1st), Alex Rodriguez (3rd), Thomas Dutcher (6th) and Grant Juelke (tied for 9th). In addition, the following students placed in the individual problem solving competition: Alex Rodriguez (2nd), Thomas Dutcher (3rd), Elizabeth Wagner (5th), Sigfried Henrich (6th), Jamseon McAdoo (7th) and Josh Makalinao (10th). |

Alexandria Public Schools currently have designated school forests at Miltona Elementary and the Alexandria Area High School. In order to have a continuous program throughout all grade levels, we would like to designate a portion of land at Discovery Middle School as well. RECOMMENDATION: The administration recommends the school board approve the attached resolution designating a portion of land at Discovery Middle School as a School Forest. |
