VI. School Board Showcase
Presenter:
Principals Chad Gerlach & Randy Pauly
Description:
The 2018-19 school year found C-I Middle Schools providing a significant level of project-based technical and career education opportunities. Dynamic programs, including MNC STEAM, MakerSpace, Project Lead the Way (PLTW), 21st Century Technology, and Career Exploration, were intended to improve the engagement level of middle school learners with programs that increased their skills, ideas, and goals for high school and beyond.
The ensuing four years of budget cuts, totaling $8.5 million, the reality of being a district in the bottom 7% in the state per-pupil funding, coupled with a worldwide pandemic have had a dramatic effect on programming, class size, and scheduling at all levels. This impact on the middle level was especially profound with the reduction and elimination of many of these opportunities. November 2022 marks one year since the passing of the Cambridge-Isanti Schools Referendum. The passing of both questions on the referendum have directly impacted our students. This was our chance to support our students, reduce class sizes, hire and retain high-quality teachers, offer more career and technical education opportunities, and increase support for all students. The October Middle Level School Board Showcase takes a reflective look at how the passing of the November 2021 referendum has positively impacted our students along with remaining true to our two voter-approved referendum questions.
