4.A. Girls Volleyball State Champions

Description:
The Wayzata HS Varsity Volleyball Team won the MSHSL Class 4A State Volleyball Championship on Saturday, November 13th. They defeated a tough East Ridge HS team in the championship match, 3-1. The win capped an undefeated season for the team, 34 wins and 0 losses (and a staggering 88-7 record in individual sets) and pushed their unbeaten streak to 54 matches dating back to October 2019.
The team includes 17 student-athletes: Sophomores: Avery Jesewitz, Olivia Swenson, Stella Swenson Juniors: Ava Hendel, Sophia Johnson, Sophia Orwig, Kaitlyn Vogt Seniors: Emma Goerger, Mel Goldstein, McKenna Leier, Sierra Moore, Jaden Morrison, Katy Riviere, Ani Rosen, Emily Soderlund, Molly Soderlund, Ella Voegele Scott Jackson will attend, has invited all team members as well. |

4.B. Boys Cross Country State Champions

Mark Popp will be in attendance.
The boys cross country team ran a great team race on Saturday, November 6th. At the midway point, the top two runners on the team were right together and moving well, while the other five runners were doing the same about 5-10 seconds behind them. In the end, they put all five scoring athletes between 26th and 45th place individually, with only 17 seconds in between them. This may be the only team to ever win a State XC Championship without an all-state individual. While Hamza Mohamed was the team's #1 finisher, 9th grader Will Weber was instrumental in pulling the pack along mid-race, which was crucial to the team's victory. In addition to Hamza and Will, the Wayzata team was made up of Alex Foss, Parker Dietrick, Daniel McCollor, Ethan Hanold, and Nick Cichoski. They scored 96 points on the day, beating out Minneapolis Southwest (118) and Mounds View (125). *Mark will attend, invited team members as well. |

Junior Claire Reinke won the 100 butterfly for the second time at the MSHSL Class AA State Championship on Saturday, November 21st. Claire won previously as a freshman (there was no state meet in 2020, her sophomore year, due to COVID). She set a school, pool and section record and earned Automatic All-American with a time of :53.97 seconds.
Elizabeth Hansen, coach, will attend the meeting. Claire is unable to attend. |
