Expulsion Hearing - Motion to move in Closed Session under the Open Meetings Act Section 8(b) "To consider the dismissal, suspension, or disciplining of a student if the public body is part of the school district, intermediate school district, or institution of higher education that the student is attending, and if the student or the student's parent or guardian requests a closed hearing."

7.B. Board Motion - On May 9, 2016, the Board of Education met at 5:00 p.m. to review a recommendation for student expulsion.  A closed session hearing was held with the student and parent being present.  The Board acted in open session and issued discipline less than expulsion.

The special meeting was not posted in accordance with the Open Meetings Act.  To remediate the failure to post the special meeting for purposes of a student hearing, the Board at this time affirms its action of May 9, 2016 to issue a disciplinary suspension as authorized under the Section 10(5) of the Open Meetings Act.  MCL 15.270.
